Bought My First Miata!!!

hey guys....just deciding to share my joy....

bought a 92 mazda miata (59k on the odo, hard-top included, new soft-top)

5-spd (the only way to go (headbang) ) all for $3250....



soo....now that i'm in the club....can anyone share the websites or places i can get deals for superchargers, roll-bars, etc.

let the modding begin.

Man, I'm jealous. That's pretty much the same features/ballpark price I'm thinking. Congrats.

lol, congrats, and that's a great price. Besides Miata.net, go to the Greddy Forums for the 1.6l turbos. It's great if you're on a budget. If you want a supercharger, check out BRP. I have lks at work, so I can post them tomorrow. Not a lot of deals on roll bars. FYI, although it's supose to fit, no problems, the HDHCDD will slightly rub on the hard top. If you don't plan on tracking the car, get the one made primarialy for the hard top. it's a little shorter, and you have room for the side latches. Not a lot of deals on them, as they are all the same price from different vendors. get one with the best deal on shipping.

FM doesn't have any supercharger set ups for the 1.6l motors. It'll probably be another year before they do. If you're insistant on a SC set-up, Jackson Racing superchargers are your only bet. They don't have much demand for go-fast stuff for us 1.6l guys, Since they(FM) told me [paraphrase]"people who want max power swap in a 1.8l and go from there"[/paraphrase] But I'm determined. I'll get the link from them, and hopefully some support. but I plan on running my 1.6l motor as long as possible.

1) Is installing a supercharger easier or about the same as a turbo? I was already looking into a jackson super because they appear to be a little bit cheaper...but if it's a pain to install...maybe a turbo would be worth the extra money.

2) What are the widest tires i could fit? Looking to get 16" rims and maybe a 205/50 tire?

205's will fit with no problem. I currently run 205/50/15 on my 94

Install of a turbo vs super? I believe the SC install would be easier. But I've only installed a turbo on my 91. The 94 came with a super from the PO.

I guess really the question is: what do you want to do with the car?

just the 1.8s so far. IIRC, BRP's coldside hasn't been released yet, but soon.

autocross and to be the weekend warrior.....

Get lightweight 15" wheels, with sticky tires. 16" are heavier, and to get light wheight ones, you will pay more.. You do not want heavy wheels/tires on a Miada.

Just remember, if you want to compete in auto-x, putting on a JRSC, will most likely bump you up to SM2, and in that class, money talks. You'll be up against some serious cars. But if you just want to do it every once in awhile to relieve stress, then who cares. have fun. But I think you'd appreciate the throttle responce of a SC more than a turbo. That's my opinion.

I'd juggest finding local people who have some and sweet talk yourself into test drives

or you could do what I'm doing; Buy a Greddy turbo kit. for $1200 you get another 35hp. Then you can upgrade as time/money allows. So far I have about $2000 in my setup on the 91 and get about 154hp And the turbo is good for about 15psi, so it's not junk, like others say. I'm gonna get a few more things for it, and plan to run about 200hp next year.

With a JR supercharger, you can do the big boost upgrade, and free flowing exhaust and get about the same (~150), but it'll cost you more, and then you're at the ceiling. Not much after that.

wow....goin for 200hp and your still under $3000...very nice. Do you install yourself, or take it to a shop?

well, that 200hp will require a lot more. Getting a Link, fuel pump, and intercooler. That's another $2000 or so.

do you know the link/website where i can see the Greddy turbo? Do you have headers exhaust to go with ur turbo?
