Boost What To Do!!!

You can safely boost to 8. I know this because I have not modded my car, and only have a boost gauge at the moment. I boost to 8psi stock. I am installing my SSBC in the spring, and will attempt to adjust boost then, but you can at least boost to 8 with no problems.

If the car cannot handle 1-2 PSI higher then there is seriously some issues with the car and with what Mazda did.
I'm running the colder plugs as well. I think spiking to 12 PSI is safe (11psi max) on 93 octane, but in the colder weather I hit the cut and installing the FCD doesn't seem like the right fix for the problem.
I don't abuse my car though, I've yet to redline it, I don't race it, I rarely floor it. I just enjoy having a 'zoom zoom' car, but I wouldn't of bought this car if I planned on ragging it out.
You guys are really lucky if your stock MSP runs 8psi. Just about everyone else says it tops out at 6.5.
I think a couple extra psi of boost is significant because this engine has the same internals as the base (130hp). I'm sure the design margin was just about used up with the turbo set at 6.5 psi.

protege are not simply tuned cars! thats why there arent many; it takes money and time dont do the cheap easiest thing to get a boost in hp save your money do it right and run circles around other cars instead of dong damage and hopin it makes thrrough its next trip.

Can we all agree then that 8 Psi daily on stock internals and high octane gas Daily and 10 Psi when you want to play??

my suggestion, although I have not modded yet, is to put in a boost gauge, see where your at stock. Leave the boost alone! But put in a turbo back exhaust, like it was said before, the stock boost level should go up abit from the turbo being able to spool easier.
The only problem there is that, without a MBC, you may be stuck with ~6+ ~1.5psi (from the exhaust).
Thats what i'm gonna do. Slap in a downpipe, and if the boost goes up, prolly dial it back down to stock for daily drivin. But with a 2 stage MBC its perfect for going from 6 - 8psi on the fly.

I thought the mbc limits you to what the car is at stock. For instance if its 6psi stock you cannot go under that even with the mbc all the way down. I have a dual stage mbc. I have it set at stock for 6.5 psi and once I Hit the switch it goes to 9.5. I have the first stage all the way down and it does not go under 6.5 psi
If I had a MSP I would...
1) Flash
2) Intake
3)Turbo Back
when I want more boost I would then do..
4)FMIC (or larger than stock)
5)MBC and Plugs
6)Tune
7) Forged Internals
Although being realistic I wouldnt get past stage 3 being a HS student and all =P I would think that would be plenty for me.
