Boost What To Do!!!

You can safely boost to 8. I know this because I have not modded my car, and only have a boost gauge at the moment. I boost to 8psi stock. I am installing my SSBC in the spring, and will attempt to adjust boost then, but you can at least boost to 8 with no problems.

if everyone is afraid of running 2 more pounds of boost they should just take the turbo out all together, just to be on the safe side!!!!!!!

turn it up to like 20 psi and race a evo for 5 grand lol
so when you win you can buy a new motor and have money left over.. unless of course you dont make it acorss the line : (

Agreed, my car boosts 8 PSI stock, runs 8.5-9 (9.5 on worst cold spike) with the MBC installed fully opened (no restriction except the MBC itself). The car doesn't feel any faster really.

If the car cannot handle 1-2 PSI higher then there is seriously some issues with the car and with what Mazda did.

I'm running the colder plugs as well. I think spiking to 12 PSI is safe (11psi max) on 93 octane, but in the colder weather I hit the cut and installing the FCD doesn't seem like the right fix for the problem.

I don't abuse my car though, I've yet to redline it, I don't race it, I rarely floor it. I just enjoy having a 'zoom zoom' car, but I wouldn't of bought this car if I planned on ragging it out.

You guys are really lucky if your stock MSP runs 8psi. Just about everyone else says it tops out at 6.5.

I think a couple extra psi of boost is significant because this engine has the same internals as the base (130hp). I'm sure the design margin was just about used up with the turbo set at 6.5 psi.

If I'm not mistaken, stock boost is approximately 6.9 psi. So going to 8 psi is about a 15% difference. If you guys think that this one change will lead to engine destruction, then you need to read an engineering book on mechanical design. "Usually", any stressed part of a mechanical device can withstand double the average load, of course this refers to a transient (meaning it's not held at that level for a long period of time). For those people who say their engines blew simply because they boosted to 8 or 9 psi had a bad engine to begin with. This assumes that at the higher boost pressure the ECU can still maintain a decent AFR. Judging from the super rich condition in stock trim, that shouldn't be a problem with 8 or 9 psi.

its already past 50% it is a protege engine with a turbo so re do you math and then tell us what psi it can handle

protege are not simply tuned cars! thats why there arent many; it takes money and time dont do the cheap easiest thing to get a boost in hp save your money do it right and run circles around other cars instead of dong damage and hopin it makes thrrough its next trip.

wann cheap easy car to mod buy a honda.

do not run over stock boost(evil)

oh shi, i've been caught!!

i'll be running 10psi with just breathing mods when i get my msp :(

Can we all agree then that 8 Psi daily on stock internals and high octane gas Daily and 10 Psi when you want to play??

MSP Stock is 8 Psi.

my suggestion, although I have not modded yet, is to put in a boost gauge, see where your at stock. Leave the boost alone! But put in a turbo back exhaust, like it was said before, the stock boost level should go up abit from the turbo being able to spool easier.

The only problem there is that, without a MBC, you may be stuck with ~6+ ~1.5psi (from the exhaust).

Thats what i'm gonna do. Slap in a downpipe, and if the boost goes up, prolly dial it back down to stock for daily drivin. But with a 2 stage MBC its perfect for going from 6 - 8psi on the fly.

Man mine was only running 5PSI stock. :(
I promptly upped bit by bit to 12.
I think that some off the techs who built it were asleep at the wheel in some regards. I love my car buy I was not happy about 5PSI where 6.5 should have been.

How you going to dial it back down?

I thought the mbc limits you to what the car is at stock. For instance if its 6psi stock you cannot go under that even with the mbc all the way down. I have a dual stage mbc. I have it set at stock for 6.5 psi and once I Hit the switch it goes to 9.5. I have the first stage all the way down and it does not go under 6.5 psi

If I had a MSP I would...

1) Flash
2) Intake
3)Turbo Back
when I want more boost I would then do..
4)FMIC (or larger than stock)
5)MBC and Plugs
6)Tune
7) Forged Internals

Although being realistic I wouldnt get past stage 3 being a HS student and all =P I would think that would be plenty for me.
