So check it out heres my thing I was driving out of town and went about 200 mi but 30 min into the drive every time i would boost the car just pulsates and goes no faster but the car ran fine w/o boosting. Well when i got to where i was going i found the vac lines to the pcv valve sucked in on themselves. So i replace them with thicker fuel/ emission lines but when i drove the car it had a total lack of low end power car wouldnt move till about 3k rpm. I replaced the coils and wires and it seemed to fix that problem its runs fine now under its own power but its still pulsing under boost. What do you think is going on now and it seems to do this on trips after 30mi but never around town.

I have something like this. When I hit boost, It doesn't feel like it really makes a difference, and the car stutters a bit. I also, only have a CAI for mods.

check your couplers do you have hard or the oem pipes if its the oems you might have a hair line crack only opens up under boost.

I have the plastic stock pipes. Is there a way to check for a crack if it only opens up under boost?

im not sure but usually the first place that cracks is the nipple to the bypass from the hot pipe best thing to do is invest in some pipes there are alot of options i got the universal from ebay but there are custom pipes for this car at the protege garage and a differnt other places just make sure that you dont go cheap on the couplers silicone three ply is the minimum I would recomend

Here's what I'd recommend, as it fixed my sputtering problems for the most part. I still have minor sputtering, but seem to have a cracked manifold.

Spark plugs: How old are they, and are they gapped correctly? The basic NGKs work best with minor mods.
Intercooler pipes and vacuum lines: check all of them for cracks or loose connections as this is a common issue with the stock ones.
Exhaust mani: take off the heat shield and check for cracks there also. Another common problem with the msp.
Wastegate: while you're checking the vacuum lines check the wga. The stock unit is pretty much worthless and leaks. The overboost can cause fuel cut; which could also be what you're experiencing.
There are many other things it could be, but those are the most common causes of issues on near stock msp's. There's a sticky for this, so check that out also.

well I have replaced the plugs with one step cooler ngk plugs and I already have put a new wga from protege garage.I also replaced the vacuum lines. I've done all this a few months ago. I live in cali and up untill lately I could drive my car over the grapevine to L.A. boosting with out a problem. but with in the last month I cant boost on the freeway driving normaly on flat ground. On thursday im headed to fresno mazda to get my ecu retuned hoping that will help also cuz the mazda dealership in bakersfield are a bunch crooks. Also they are charging me 115$ to retune the ecu is that a good price?

I'd try replacing the spark plugs with the stock heat range NGKs (I can't find the part # though). They're only $2 a piece at Advance. I had the one step colder in my car also, and switched back to those and the car ran much better. Smoother acceleration. The one step colder isn't meant for near stock cars so its not going to help. If you'd rather keep them, then make sure they're gapped correctly.

I found it.. The nipple that connects the bpv to the hot pipe broke off. Thanks for the info. Lets hope this fixes it.

I'd def switch back to stock heat range plugs. The one step colder is for cars running 10psi or more.

Acutally i just finished putting stock plugs back in also.glued the nipple back on hope it lasts till I find another hot pipe.
