Blown Turbo!!

My son just rolled up in his MSP and tells me that the car is driving funny/no power and no boost. I take it to the end of the road and back---No boost!
I start checking under the hood and see oil seeping around the comp. side of the turbo. Pull the hose running to the Ic and it is completely full of oil!! I changed the oil in his car at 1000 and at 3500 miles swithching to mobil 1. It now has around 6000 miles on it. Any thoughts? has anyone else lost a turbo this early. I only hope that on his short trip with the IC full that the engine wasn't hurt by running lean, it sure wasn't getting much air.

Blueboost is now NOBOOST!!!!

my turbo went, but no oil like you are describing. Oil wasn't getting to the turbo, so it killed the ball bearing section of the turbo. It would take forever to spool and made a really shrill whistling noise.

sorry to hear about your trouble. i have seen some folks on this board that had turbos go rather early. same problems.....oil in the ic pipes. get it to the dealer and demand a new turbo and motor. well it might not have hurt the motor but make sure they check everything.

sorry to hear that man, you r not the first one , that's for sure...tell us how the dealer takes care of it.
hope you have no mods when you take it in

Ehh, turbos break.. its why we have a warranty.. its almost a guarantee that the turbo they replace it with outlasts the motor... :)

Sucks, but hey at least its free to fix.

The MSP is bone stock. When I say the IC is full of oil, I mean FULL of oil! How do you figure the replacement turbo will outlast the engine since this one only made it 6000 miles? The warranty work may be free but the dealer is over 120 miles away which means a loss of some work time to arrange a pick up after the work is completed. I also don't have the greatest confidence in service depts. Door ding, scratches, getting in with screwdrivers in the back pocket etc. etc.

If it's less than a year old, you got that Mazda Roadside assistance thing right?
Call them and tell them to flat bed the thing to the dealer. I wouldn't drive the car 120 miles like that, miss work etc.

I think he is saying missing work to pick it up after it is fixed. I doubt they would flat bed it back to him. But maybe if you are really good at bitching, they would drop it off for you...doubtful though.

sounds like a cooked oil seal.... did your son let it cool off before shutting down??

lucky the engine wasn't diesel...

that's funny, my car is doing the same thing now! i took it in a while ago for a leak around the oil feed line to the turbo and after a while it started with this loud screeming sound not the normal whistling sound it used to make.

I wonder if my car has a blown turbo. did, your car still build full boost when your turbo was doing this?

I used and still use a synthetic blend. As to why it blew, the turbo wasn't getting enough oil. The oil line was either clogged, kinked, or just plain not flowing right so the ball bearing section deteriorated and eventually killed the turbo.

Kind of the same deal here, but no major oil leak, just some residual oil burned on top of the turbo. Mine hit full boost but only at about 4000 rpms in first, second and third. At first I wasn't sure if it was because of hesitation, but that didn't really explain why the turbo wouldnt boost quickly.

My turbo in the end made a metal on metal type of sound. Luckily we have a lot of msps in so cal so it was easy to compare turbo noises.

yeah same thing here with the burnt oil on top of the turbo around the oil feed line they just tightened it to specs and sent me on my way fugger's.but,my turbo still builds boost at the same rpm it did before it's just this new noise it's making that has me concerned.i'm going to have them check it out again soon.

Similar to me, my turbo leaked oil (minor) and it was replaced under warranty. Get it replaced. My car after the replacement ran better than new.
