Blown motor mount

Heads up, I had a motor mount go bad. It is the #3 mount. Only sign was what looked like mud or oil splashed on top of the right fender inside the engine bay. Dealer replaced it no problem. Apparently it is a known problem with the Mazda3.

Thanks for the heads up!!! Can I ask, what it was that prompted you to inspect the engine bay??? Did your 5 begin handling or idling rougher??? Or did you just happen to be in there and notice the fluid that had come out??? Did the dealership give you a reason for the mount failing???

I thought the issue is with the Speed3, not the regular 3.

Bump.....

I noticed drops of what looked like oil this morning in the driveway as i was pulling out for work.

I couldnt really see anything under the hood until i got to work and popped open the hood again and found a mess that appeared to be coming from the motor mount.

This is the mount that sits to the left of the engine when looking in. I will try to post pics.

This isn't just Mazda either. A lot of companies have problems with these "front" motor mounts.

I wonder if someone makes an after-market version...

Fluid is the worst thing that ever happened to motor mounts!

Can't think of a greater failure.

On the bright side, it provides indication that that motor mount has
gone bad.

Wow, that doesn't look like much...I don't know if I would have thought much of it even if I saw that. Thanks for giving the heads up. How long does it take them to fix?

I suppose, but leaks of any kind just make me uneasy, especially unnecessary leaks like that.

these are liquid filled motor mounts.. they're suppose to break when getting into a frontal accident, motor mount breaks.. engine fall to the ground instead of going thru the firewall..

i'm not sure how safe it is when the liquid leaks?

My understanding is that the purpose of the fluid filled mounts is to reduce the amount of engine vibration that is felt in the car. When a solid mount is attached to the engine, any vibration produced by the engine is transmitted down the solid mount and directly throughout the vehicle. With the fluid mount, the fluid absorbs some of the vibration by allowing some movement in the mount, thereby not transmitting that vibration to the rest of the car.
