Ok so some of you know i broke a rod like a month ago....I even borrowed some stock parts from a few ppl around here....Well yesterday im driving down the Palmetto and Boooooooom 2 huge holes in my block.....white smoke everywhere.... so im like okkkkkk.....so i take it to the dealership....this is what they had to say...Well due to the modifications, the after market oil filter (b/c i got an oil change at Jiffy Lube) they said it was not covered under warranty??? What the **** is up with mazda??????????

wow... that sucks. sorry to hear man. maybe you can talk to the people at jiffy lube to replace your motor. my sister got a oil change from jiffy lube one time and they didnt tighten the oil plug and it caused the rods to break. mazda wouldnt covor it but jiffy lube did cause they accepted the fact that it was their fault. maybe it will work for you as well.

more people need to read about jiffy lube's service. a few people have had broken motors due to their employees doing a bad job. someone on this board had to fight jiffy lube to replace his motor because they replaced his oil.

mazda cant void your warranty because maintence wasn't performed at the dealer. I would call consumer affairs

How did the filter cause the failure? A non-OEM filter most definately won't void your warranty. Did Jiffy Lube not tighten it enough or use the wrong part # or something? That could cause them to deny your claim.

Any other mods?

There was another post on the site, Same thing!! Jiffy didnt tighten the filter and the motor went POP! But the guy got Jiffy to pay for te replacement (the guy was upset because for what they ended up paying Mazda he could of got a better built motor from Beau or Cork Sport for less, or with a better turbo or something like that)

Hope it all turns out well, if they do replace see if you cant chose where (maybe they'll go for it if its cheaper, IF its cheaper)

HAY-OL NAW!!!!! In order to deny your warranty claim, Mazda HAS to prove that the oil filter caused it. And if they CAN do that, then you go to JL and get them to pay for a new engine.

I agree with that. Did you notice any oil leaks before this happened. ie little drops or puddles in the driveway or anything? How long before you had the oil changed at Jiffy Lube? And I would also call consumer affairs if Mazda will not replace the motor just for the simple fact of having "an aftermarket oil filter not from Mazda". Tell them to give you a copy of the warranty where it says that it voids it. Also be sure that you went to a CERTIFIED MSP technician at that dealership. Not every dealership can do work on the MSP and they are clueless as to what needs to be done or the warranty work that it should include. Also when you installed the other rods, was it professionally done and did they notice any other problems with the engine when they did the work?

Damn I would not go easy on mazda raise hell!!! Im telling you, thats crap an oil filter installed by pros. Def. contact jiffy lube main branch or something. Hope everything works out for you.

no other mods....they said the car was probably run with no oil....yeaaahh thats why there was like 2 quarts of oil on the ground when the engine blew....the rest was probably the white smoke that was there for like 20 min!! Im going to contact Jiffy Lube and see if they want to fight it with me or what....This is the dumbest s*** ive ever heard....and the car is completely stock right now exept for the "non-oem" oil filter!!

Jiffy-Lube is only in existance to give jobs to those who used to take the "short bus" to school.

uumm.. yeah. I have seen many a motor blown because of the wrong oil filter on. And if your rod bearings are welded to the crankshaft, more than likely it was run low of oil.

i bet you the oil filter those guys installed prolly didn't even come with a by-pass... that totally sucks dude!

yeah w/o the by-pass the oil can't flow if the pressure gets too high or if the filter gets too dirty.
still you need to go to the dealer and demand to talk to the owner and threat to contact the news(they don't like that). or tell them you need to speak with there mazda rep, but if yours is like the one in my area your better off with the dealership management.

don't take that s*** from them. my car, at 900 miles, had the waste gate valve stuck open and they pulled some s*** about no buy backs after the papers are signed so the dealership gave me an extended warrenty and now I work there....

DONT TAKE THAT s***

^^^ Update!! Man..that's why I never take mine to these kinda places. Either do my own or take it to a reputable shop.

I do my own oil changes. I took it to Jiffy Lube ONE time because I was far from home and my tools. I watched them do everything. The guy putting my drainplug back on over tightened it, and bent the washer. After that, I got home, and changed out the oil, AND the filter. I only use the OEM Mazda V6 626 filters, and they fit WITH the MSP oil cooler I have.
