2013~2016 Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM) Switch Doesn’t Work?

Recently I’m trying to have a habit to press the “TCS OFF” button each time I drive the CX-5, and I accidentally hit the Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM) button a couple of times. I noticed the button has no effect to turn off the BSM, and didn’t see any “BSM OFF” indicator light lit in the instrument cluster. And the BSM and Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA) seem to keep working and can’t be turned off by the switch.

Owner’s manual says:
“When the Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM) switch is pressed, the Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM) and Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA) systems are turned off and the Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM) OFF indication/indicator light in the instrument cluster turns on.”

Anybody else is having the same experience? I actually checked all dash warning lights when the ignition just turns on, but I simply couldn’t find the “BSM OFF” indicator anywhere. If the light bulb or LED has burned out so that I can’t see it, where is the “BSM OFF” indicator in dash?

Probably bad contact since it has not been used for many years.
You can remove it from dash (the while sub-panel) and clean the contact up with DetoxIt or something similar to it.

But where is the “BSM OFF” indicator light mentioned in the manual?

The above link has a picture that shows the BSM OFF indicator near the center of the speedometer.

I checked the 2016 CX-5 Owner's Manual on Mazda.ca, and it shows the following:

Type B Display:

And the indicator looks like this:

The dash location of “BSM OFF” indicator showed in the Service and Repair Manual on my 2016 CX-5 GT AWD is either “High Beams On” indicator or the “Charging System Malfunction” warning light as seen in my 2016 CX-5 Smart Start Guide. And I can’t find the “BSM OFF” indicator icon in instrument cluster illustrated in the Smart Start Guide either.

Hm, that's odd. Sorry, don't know what to tell ya 🤷‍♂️

Appreciate your effort trying to find “BSM OFF” indicator icon in dash. Hope some 2016 or newer CX-5 owners can chime in and share their “BSM OFF” indicator location in instrument cluster.

I don't even have the BSM switch on the panel in my 2019 GT-R

Look to the left of your temperature indicator in the fuel gauge area.

Thanks for posting pictures! Currently my CX-5 has red wrench indicator and “Oil change due” in that dash area which apparently prevents the display of ambient temperature and “BSM OFF” icon! That explains why I can’t find the “BSM OFF” icon. Besides, the “BSM OFF” icon on the 2016 CX-5 GT with Type A instrument cluster is not an amber-colored light like on rockethead26’s 2019 CX-5 GTR and the glossary in my Smart Start Guide, but a black-and-white LCD icon with “OFF” wording at different position as showed in manuals.

On my 2016 CX-5 GT AWD it’s interesting to see that the “BSM OFF” icon looks different among glossary of warning and indicator lights、illustration in Smart Start Guide、and the actual icon displayed on Type A instrument cluster.

Glossary of warning and indicator lights (amber / yellow color):

Or:

The illustration in my Smart Start Guide (LCD black-and-white display with a tilted vehicle within 2 road lines and the “OFF” wording further down):

The icon actually is the “LAS & LDWS OFF” indicator light, a feature which wasn’t available for my 2016 CX-5:

The actual “BSM OFF” icon displayed on Type A instrument cluster (LCD black-and-white display with the “OFF” wording further down than standard “BSM OFF” icon):

So Mazda put a wrong “BSM OFF” indicator icon on dash illustration in my Smart Start Guide. And that’s why I couldn’t locate the “BSM OFF” icon on my dash from the manual at the first place.
