Headlight trim

Start by removing the grill and then take the bumper off. Next you have to take the headlights out and break the seals on them. Take apart the housing and the trim piece comes off with two screws. Paint it black with barbeque paint and put it all back together with a s*** load of marine glue. Took about 4 hours but the b4 and after is so much different...

sweet looking...i had been looking for somebody who had done this...you might be the first...looks good though...did you smoke the lenses too??

Check out all the other pics I found. There is a thread for them in the P5 forum. I don't have the Japanese text decoder so I couldn't read anything. If I had it I'd join their site. They have lots of meets!

I wonder if anyone has imported the JDM version of the headlights...they look like double reflectors and fairly nasty (in a good way, of course.)

looks good bro...you beat me to it bro...I've been wanting to do this for a while...but was too scured to mess my headlights up...but now that I know its possible, I'll do mine this weekend...I see you also painted your front emblem black....did you do the ones in the back?...If not I recommend it...I did mine and they look way better then the chrome...also how's thing's going on the SEATAC P5 Club coming along?.....I wouldn't mind joining, but I live on Whidbey Island....let me know whats up...later bro...

I think that would look good on my Black P5?? Also, how'd you get the emblem painted?? What kind of application?? I want to do something different with the front grill area, I am thinking no Mazda symbol at all and keeping the Honeycomb grill. I wonder if I could order one?? If anyone knows~~ Let me in!! Plus, i want to get rid of the protege markers in the back, but I know they are not adhesive. Anyone have any suggestions.

BTW, BDF02PR5, your car looks sweet. I kinda tend to not like hood pins, but it looks ok. But overall, I want to go with a similar look. Any suggestions would be helpful.

Replies...

Thanks you for all the comments and compliments. I have not painted my rear emblems yet but paln on doing so very soon. I am getting the JDM badge for the back to go with the Sport20 decals I have for the side. If you want to do the headlights, I say GO FOR IT!!! it makes the car look so much more aggressive and dont be worried about the night time light output, it is just the same. The reflectors surround the rear part of the light. If you want a step by step on how to paint the lights, give me a call, I would love to help anybody out.

I've been wanting to do this for a while too. I knew there'd be quite a process, but it involves removing the front bumper?? Perhaps it just sounds more intense than it really is. A step-by-step would be very helpful. Anyone, please email me or contact me on AIM so we can talk about this awesome custom idea!!

The link was very, very well done!!! :D The painted housing looks bad ass! Very aggressive (laugh)

grr i painted mine and guess id idnt seal it well enough....poo poo condensation...gotta take it apart again and dry it all out and seal it all up again. boo.

Yes, with that DIY and my laptop upon my engine, I was able to paint my headlights. Very excellent writeup, even though I was very weary of baking my headlights. They smell like brownies now though.:D
