sounds to me that the new cluster is different to the original cluster in terms of what the circuit is doing....probably causing a short or something along those lines. ie the engine is telling the cluster that the air/fuel ratio is 12:1, the cluster is then telling the ecu that the air/fuel ratio is on (maybe because instead of being connected to the air fuel ratio circuit it's changed to the blinker circuit...i have no idea, but that's just an example)...ecu then has no idea what is going on and basically trys to save the engine at all cost.
ditch the new cluster and get a 2002 cluster with tach instead
