I just wonder if any of you guys have done any gas milage modification because this car sucks on gas. My other car that is V6 3.5L 250hp burn less gas than P5. What went wrong with design of our engine that is only 2L and 130hp.

I think the mileage on this car is pretty good.. what sort of mileage are you getting? I can get about 800km per tank (55L)... i usually am at about 700 with 1/4 to go.. give or take.

I average mid 20's with my driving and can get around 30MPG on the highway with a medium load. mazda is not known for thei milage mile many other 4-cyl engines. oh-well, mid 20's not not bad????

I feel lucky if I get 25 mpg out of my wife's P5. 310 miles per tank (until the light comes on):(

If I drive my 2.5 Alti on the same commute, I get 29-30. Did it many times so I am sure...

That just sucks, no? I'd say that "mazda is not known for their mileages on it's engines (not just 4 cylinder)", after reading over at RX8 and Mazda6 forums...

Still, I got to like the little sucker, it looks hot (naughty)

Maybe a piggyback or stand alone ECU to lean it out. Not much else will make any difference. The milage does suck. I had a turbocharger 2.3L ford Mustang and it got 28 mpg boosting 15+psi.(Same as the slow ass protege) My N/A 2.3L stang got 30-35mpg. Heck even my Crown Victoria could AVERAGE 24mpg with cam, heads, intake, gears, headers, exhaust, injectors, ECU...

my car takes 12.0 gallons when the light comes on and with driving 310 miles that would be close to 26 MPG, which is not bad. that is about what i average with my normal weekly driving. minimal highway milage and i keep the rpm's up. i am sure i could do better with less throttle and driving habits, but the 2.0L likes to run.

my P5 runs with my brother-in-law's altima 2.5SL auto.......

let's see, I can get anywhere from 350mpt to over 400mpt. Over 400mpt, I drive on hills and top out when there are no cars around at about 113mph. Other than that, I drive about 75-85 the whole way from Austin, TX to Lubbock, TX

my bad

I firmly believe it is the high revs in top gear. My auto is at 3k at 70mph. In 3rd it isn't much higher. They really needed to change the ratio so at 70 it runs at 2500rpm.

I don't think 300 is that hard at all. It's all about throttel imo. Witht he auto...50mph and 60 mph accelerations really really burn up the gas. As we all know, at that speed on the highways, our cars are to damned slow for anyhting but WOT.

ok i dont get it i dont push the can and i only go 400km per tank and when i push it i get 380km per tank what the hell am i doig wrong guys i keep the revs between 2000 rpm and 3000 rpm (dunno)

i just got to 387miles when the light finally came on this past weekend. mostly freeway driving. i finally filled up at about 397 and got about 12 gallons of gas. i usually shift before 3k and try to stay at 70-75mph.

maybe try changing the plugs or something... that seems to low... is your car idleing alot?

I get a consistant 29mpg in the summer and 27 in the winter (with dry roads) and I have an automatic. Just use the normal tricks of no jack rabbit starts, use the cruise control on longer sections, keep proper air in the tires (or a bit extra) and stay under 65mph. Faster than that and mileage drops up to 20 percent.

I can get 400 miles on a tank if it's low speed highway, while the RPM's are under 3K. I usually get 340-360 miles per tank. On most of my long trips I can only get 28mpg. Which is also what my average MPG is.

best evar was about 425 all the way to E...put in 13.8 gallons, so that makes it roughly 31 mpg. thats with CAI, cat-back, and shorty header. that was summer driving with a/c off, windows cracked and sunroof cracked
