I know, I know "best" is such a subjective term, but after a lot of searching I am still looking for the "best" 215/40-17" tire for under $100/ea. Many names come to mind at this price point(Falken,Toyo, Kumho, Pirelli, Yoko, Nitto, etc). It's hard to get these tires on a side by side comparison on the internet because not all sites carry all the brands. Thus, i turn to the tire guru's for information. Must meet the following criteria...

1. Long lasting for a daily driver (high UTQG rating)
2. Summer only
3. Nice ride comfort
4. Quiet

Looking for more personal experiences here. If you think one tire is superior, please include WHY! I'm not concerned with high performance because I don't beat on my car. I also don't care about name recognition or anything...just a great all around summer tire for my new wheels!(drive)

Thanks

I have the Kuhmo Ecsta MX, and I can vouch for 3 of the four above criteria. I don't know about long lasting or not since I have only had them a couple of weeks, but they do grip. They are quiet, at least in comparison to the Parada Spec II, and I think that they are more comfortable than even the stock Dunlops. Tire rack sells them for $93 a piece, but I went in to Discount Tires and they gave them to me for $102/tire out the door. Mounted and the old ones tossed...

PS, mine is a 205, not a 215, so your price may vary...

I just got a set of Sumitomo HTR Z II in 215/40-17. I had Khumo Supra 712's before and found them harsh and noisy after they got half worn.

I read a review on Tirerack for the Khumo's Toyo's ES100 and the Sumitomo's. I was looking for a quieter riding tire than the Khumo's. Sumitomo's fit the bill and so far I am happy with them. Tirerack has them for $85 and Sears did a price match for me.

man my 901's only meet like 1 of those requirements..hehe...they wear fast, r noisy, and make the ride alil rough..but damn do they grip..and i love um.. and they were only $79 a tire at NTB.. i got them on sale!!!

either the falken 512s or the fuzion zr1

or for serious summer only nad not a real long lasting go with the dunlop fm901. they are bout 100 each
the falken is bout 75 and the fuzion is around 85

I love my kumho 712's- I cant comment to wear personally, but after a couple of my friends have owned them and have gotten great mileage out of them, expectations are high. Noise- Far less than my snow tires, and a pretty damn good ride as well. I picked them up at my local discount tire for 79 installed each.

I got Nitto Neogens (205/45 16) around mid winter and I love them. They're grippy wet or dry, look good, ride smooth and have good wear. I've heard good and bad about them but my experiences have been great. I paid about $100/ea for my size, not sure what it would be for the size you're looking for but that's my .02. :D

Does anyone know where to get the new Fuzion tires? and who makes them?

Thanks for the imput, right now the Kumho MX looks like the best of the performance bunch with the Sumitomo's being the most value minded choice(uhm)

Kumho is a great new tire that will soon be the best selling tire. Very good tread rating compared to others. check www.1010tires.com you could search through a lot of tires by the criteria you set quickly.

Well, for 3 of 4 Kuhmo ASX are great. They're all seasons. 420 treadwear, damn quiet and ride great. Handle very well too and are 91 bucks from tire rack.

Try 1010tires for Toyo Proxes TPT - 195/50R16 $109.99. I just got mine installed today and I like them a lot. Nice tire. I paid $600 for them at local belletire with warrenty and allignment included.
