Best Subwoofers???

This type of thread is always just going to have every manufacturer covered. If you go by what wins SQ, you'll end up with a system that doesn't sound that great with anything but complex instrument songs, jazz, vocals etc. Your general FM station or Dance/Rap/Hip Hop CD won't sound that good.

I agree with 1st MP3, JL have won alot, with that in mind we should all run MB Quart seperates, but I can't stand hard dome tweeters, but they win.

I've used a few different subs in my time, most were in small sealed enclosures, and the sound differences were very slight. Volume levels were different, but the general SQ in a car doesn't rely that heavily on the sub.

-I used old IMPP Pioneers, they sounded good.
-These are the loudest subs I ever used, AVI woven fiber 12's. They needed a huge enclosure, but they were hella loud. The firm is based out of Richmond here in Vancouver, and hand build all the subs. They went under, but are still hanging on now. They build a 12 inch that's only 4 inches deep for rear side panel mounting, kind of cool.
-Soundstream EXACT10's. Good, and loud.
-JL 10W3's. Sound great and loud.
-Kicker original Solobaric 10's. LOW. Not great for SQ and power hungry though.

I used Alpine TypeS 10's last, and for the money especially, the SQ and freq range were great in the sealed enclosure. For my P5 I'm debating going again with a single TypeS 10", or a TypeR DVC 10 to get the most out of my sub channel.

In defense of my Jl statement, I have yet to EVER be disapointed by a trio of JL audio 10W6 subs, for any music.

JL

I hope you didn't take my comments as critizing the JL product. They build great stuff, and I was pleased with the sound, level and quality of the subs. I was even going to buy the 500/5 amp instead of the KX700.5 I have now. It just came down to cost. For the money, the W6's are great, but for the cost to get three, it pushes it out of my money, and space budget. Three will also be very loud, much louder than I ever need for day to day, a single, or at most two tens are fine for me.

It was more a broad statement that the sound quality increase was incremental for me, not a huge leap ( although it was between generally higher end subs ). I would however recomment the W0 and W1 series for sure, they sound great at a rock bottom price, its just I get the rubber surround TypeS and TypeR subs at a very large discount.

Yes JL Audio is a fine company with great products. They are, however, way too expensive for me. I am planning on having an Inifinity setup... Kappa Perfect 12" sub, Kappa 6.5 components, and Kappa 6.5 coaxials. What I'm having trouble with is finding good affordable amps. I want a 50x4 and a class D 300x1.

alumapro. -=) if i coulda afforded it.. thats what i woulda put in my ride.. but since ima broke ass its a audiobahn alum12q.. if it sucks.. ill sell it an get sumthin JL. -=)

US to Cad pricing must be funny. Up here, the JL W6 series and Infinity Perfect series subs are the same price. Expensive!

I'm really happy with the SQ and pricing of my Kicker ZX700.5. I'm not in love with a single power supply 5 channel, it would be better if the sub section had a dedicated power supply, but for basic volume and ease of system setup, it works great. Its rated for 4x40 rms on the Class A/B front/rear channels, and 1x200 ( 1x400 at 2 0hms ) in the Class D sub section. Comes with internal front and rear high level inputs, which is great for me to hook it up to the factory deck, and fully variable crossovers for all the channels. Fancooled as well. It does draw some power though, and will blow 75AMP fuses ( its rated for 90, and at full throttle it probably approaches that ) so I run a 100A breaker now and 4 gauge wire.

I got mine off EBAY new in the box for $318US. Even at the time last year when the Canadian peso was only a 50 cents, it beat the $1100 CAD they wanted for this amp up here. I buy almost all my stuff off EBAY now, its just too cheap.

JL has products in the same price range of everything you listed. So how are they more expensive again? (scratch)

YOu have no idea how pissed I am that Tweeter opted to NOT carry your amp.
I love 5 channels and can sell them all day and now all we have is the JL 500/5 and not to many people have $850 to throw down on an amp.

JL has products with the same specs as the one I mentioned for the same prices? I can get a Kappa Perfect 12.1DVC for $143, 6.5 Kappa components for $135, coaxials for $75. No retailer around here can come close to those prices... plus I'd have to pay Tax on anything I buy at a retailer.

Keep in mind you get no warrenty on that stuff online from infinity.
Since your obviously online shopping then you can get a 12W3v2 for the price of the kappa sub or better yet a JL 12W6, which is far superior in my mind, and they can even be had for $199 retail.
You can get the JL TR series components and coaxles for close to the Kappas price and cheaper online. Not to mention the VRs, which again I feel are far better then the infinities.

A store! Sorry but thats where I get everything.

For you :D
Just search for JL online or ebay. There are vendors out there. None authorized though.

i have yet to be disappointed by my single brahma 10 for any music also:D course that is largely due to the enclosure, being specifically designed for lows and highs, and let the resonant freq range take care of the middle bass;) but i'll be trying a horn loaded design next:p
