best mods?

2001 mazda protege mp3
hey guys im new to the forums, and was wondering what your opinion was on the best mods for a 2001 mazda protege mp3. I'm looking for noticable horse power increase and some cool appearance mods. Also i dont have a ton of cash to spare so i need a nice ratio between hp, appearance and price. i know thats hard to find, but i also know you guys wont let me down so lets hear it. oh and pics are always good to.

Header, catted mid-pipe, exhaust. Great combination there. Keep diligent watch on the For Sale section on this board and usually you can score those things used for good prices.

I second the header and full exhaust. It is the most bang for the buck to start with. CAI is nice too but more sound than power.

Horsepower wise a header is the best deal for the $$. A midpipe would also help out in the higher rpm. Cold air intake is also good.

As for my favorite mod, I personally like the TWM short shifter and bushings. It makes a huge improvement in the shifts and makes the shifts much crisper and shorter.

**hughes- I sent you a private messege (PM)

You guys are gettin it all wrong. Hands down the best mod for ANY protege is a set of Dave b gauge rings! Best mod for the money available. Well, guess I should use the term "available" loosely since they're so rare.

Short shifter and solid motor mounts are some of my favorite mods along with the intake and exhuast already mentioned multiple times. Check the MP3 mod sticky for lots more ideas already listed along with prices for most stuff.

^^^ Have those also! I have to agree they are about even with the short shifter. Definitely #1 appearance mod for the money.
