Best headers?

autoexe does make one, but its about $1k. The DC is NEVER comming out. They put that on their site about 3 years ago, but have yet to produce a product. I'd get an obx if I had to do it again.

Disclaimer about OBX header, or any header on an FS-DE:

Do not expect power gains, just a better curve and better power delivery.

Is there any specific info on this? I've been considering the OBX and want to know what the power band will do. This is good to hear. I didn't want extra high end at the expense of low/mid.

Im leaning towards the OBX.

OBX is also only a 4-1 header where the AWR is a 4-2-1 giving better gains. I have a used AWR header that Im planning on selling (along with a few other things i just haven't started a thread on it yet) since I just got a mazdaspeed all my money is going into that rather than my mp3. so if you would consider an awr ill sell mine for $250 shipped.

You will most likely lose some low power but the gain in mid and upper outweighs it imo. As for gains, I know Replica had some serious bad luck w/his performance mods (he had i/h/ and axelback), though I got a pretty good gain on it...

If you're looking to pick up some low end, try a udp :)

You guys ever hear of the THUNDER HEADERS from Taiwan? If it's available there, it's worth checking it out. But if it's not available you guys better know how to speak Chinese. I got mine for approx 285usd, and it's sweet. Its actually for my Ford Lynx 2.0 from Ford but basically we have the same engine outlay. It's 4-1, they give both the header plus the downpipe for that price, definitely bolt on power. They eliminate one cat but the sensors stay in place, DIY is possible with a lifter.

FYI the Protege is the same as the Lynx in south east asia

www.thunder-muffler.com.tw i think is the webbie

I honestly don't think I lost any low/mid, in fact my mid felt a bit stronger as well, just not as much of a bump as the high rpms

of course I could be wrong (dunno)

i have heard that the racing mazda header is prone to break, no disrespect to them, just what a few members here have had happen

bought them used, have them on my car for about a year now and no problems at all

Those saying they lost low range power need dyno sheets to back it up because from the dynos I've seen there were gains at all RPMs. I, too, don't think there was a loss of torque. Heck, even running catless full exhaust the low end feels the same. I don't think our engine needs much exhaust backpressure at all.

Get the obx. Nothing wrong with it. i personally have the ractive but that was one of the first "value" headers available and I got it at a good price. any exhaust mod on these cars will give you gains. it's great

Same here...the car feels exactly the same at the low end.

I tried a 3rd gear roll with another P5 who had a CAI. At the end of the third gear i had roughly 2 car lengths.

I need info on the Genie header. I was considering the OBX, but the Genie looks like a good quality 4-2-1 header, and isn't it true that 4-2-1 yields better gains than 4-1?
