Best Fmic

perrin would be my take if you plan on going for bigger boost. it all matters on what you plan on doing to the car. if your staying below 10 psi the i would get an upgraded SMIC like i have. check out protegegarage.com

there is a thread floating around somewhere comparing all the front mounts and side mounts. i have the hiboost fmic. the only problem i had was one pipe was a little too short so i had to get an extra long coupler.

Go custom, there not too hard to make. buy a piping kit and then find an intercooler that will fit. The hard part is deciding on the manufacturer of the IC. I have a spearco with custom piping.

Where did you get your piping? Thats the last thing I need for my kit

yes i agree, if you know someone that can do piping and have a little time/patience, i feel like custom is the way to go. I just put a hiboost in and now that i realize what it's all about i see that custom wouldn't be too hard and would be better/cheaper. as far as kits go though, my shallow immediate thoughts:
perrin = huge, for highly modded cars.
hiboost = about the right size for many, very popular, pretty, i think cheapest?
begi = honestly don't know much about, for some reason i think it's a little small but can't remember the dimensions.

look for the thread comparing them all. it may be a sticky.

best front mount intercoolers IMO:
Greddy
ARC
HKS

best front mout for the msp:
Perrin
Or custom done if you know what your doing and what you want. (I love my custom fmic)

i got my kit a few years back. but now i definitely agree with you. just make the kit yourself! the hiboost came with a spearco core as well. just get a nice core, buy different angles of pipes and make it. better yet, find pictures of the kits and mimic the pipe routing. not too hard at all.

I had a turbo kit for an integra that I scavanged for a lot of my parts. I had to cut a lot of it and find extra couplers with bends but not too bad.

The best one for what your looking for, would probably be the bell engineering FMIC.Protege Garage has them on there website

my friend just turboed his gsr and we made the piping. its really not that difficult at all. we talked to a shop and they quoted him 5-6 hours to bend the pipes and everything. we said **** that and did it our self in half the time. he was happy how it came out. il stop rambling but the point is just make it yourself!!

i have the perrin kit and its great, but i feel custom is the proper way to go. ive learned a lot in the process of modding my msp and for my next car i plan to do a lot of things myself bc certain things are fairly simple.

if youve got deep enough pockets just go ahead and get the perrin. the bling of its size is pretty cool. but be prepared for the car to become a whole new animal if you dont have ems. youre drastically changing things by adding a huge front mount and it wont drive too great without tuning. i mean full throttle its great and the butt dyno approves, but certain things will be different and i found them quite annoying.

im looking to get the upgraded side mount......from what i hear if your staying under 10psi it is more efficient and puts better numbers out.

I love my Perrin even though the CHODES at Perrin made the pipes the wrong size and I had to modify them. It is a real PAIN IN THE ASS to install.
It works great though and it was pulling strong at 17-20PSI with my upgraded turbo, GHL exhaust, MPI tuner and J&S safegaurd.
I finally broke an oil ring in cylinder #1 so I am going forged after 120k miles of high boost.
Custom seems to be the cheapest route but this Perrin rocks BAWLS for 20 PSI :)
However, you could go just as big (if needed) with a custom kit and not pay over a grand.

you must have gotten your front mount near the same time as me, i had the same problem. but it wasnt the pipes, the end tanks were made too long. just curious, what kind of fuel system setup do you have to handle 20 psi?

Pardon me, yes my endtanks were TOO ******* LONG as well thanks for reminding me :(
The pipes were too long and the endtanks came in way too far towards the engine.
As far as fuel goes I was just running the stock injectors and yes they would lean out a bit 13:1 and if I choose to not modify the MAF voltage via the MPI then it would hit cut. But you would be suprised how well these little guys held up under warmer weather.
I will be adding the extra two injectors to the mix because really that is the only non-half assed (yes I too was running half-assed) way to run the MPI and this in fact was the designer's intent.
You will get a nice increase in fuel with the two new injectors running in the IC pipe just ahead of the throttle body and it cools the charge some.
