Best exhaust, but quietest

Before I get flamed (flame2), just know that I have my fire-proof suit on! I did a search, but didn't find this combination that I'm asking...

Anyway, I wanted to know what the BEST exhaust performance-wise is out there, BUT also the quietest! I don't want to be too loud, since the intake sound is good enough for me. I want to improve performance, without the ricer sound.

Would the MAZDASPEED exhaust that they have at dealerships fit this criteria? Cause I would love to get an exhaust that doesn't void my warranty too.

Your input is very much appreciated! :p

Really? When you're on the highway, it doesn't make you wanna rip your ears off and blast your radio?

its loud when im going 100+ but its not bad...no worse than the wind in this godforsaken state

It has an aggressive noise to it but not high and whiney like you've got a 2 stroke engine on a leaf-blower. Has a deeper "throaty" sound to it.

http://jfearing.netfirms.com will give you a good indication.

I did my first 'noise' test of the system (over 70mph) this weekend and the noise was bearable up to about 3500/4000rpm without music.

Yup, the HKS is loudest when it starts to resonate between 3K and 4K. But it sounds really nice. I'm actually selling mine. I've decided (for the second time) to keep my P5 stock.

An additional consideration -

No offense if it's your thing, but visually I'm not interested in having a coffee can hanging under my rear bumper. I like the looks of the oval shaped tips - looks classy to me.

You be the judge... Has it all. Looks, performance and a great sound.

A valid point, honestly I'm the same way. However what makes the HKS a bit more appealing than say a "cantalope launcher" is the fact that the tip is actually angled out of the body. Thus making the actual opening not appear as large and obnoxious as other tips.

Thanks a lot guys for the input... no one said anything about the MAZDASPEED exhaust they have at the dealerships. What do you think about those?

I too am not looking for the coffee can exhaust either, as I think that's stupid. Plus, I'd hate to have the impression that my car is a racing monster and some faster car pull up trying to race. I'd like to keep it subtle, but better performance than stock.

With that being said, any more suggestions?

there is also the thermal exhaust for the P5....looks almost idential to the stock one but the piping is larger and so is the polished tip that has thermal engraved on it

it sounds great too and its a full cat back exhaust (replaces the secondary cat)

I'm surprised no one mentioned the Racing Beat exhaust? I've heard that it is the quietest exhaust for us and still adds some power.

I didn't mention it based on price. Originally he was asking about the MazdaSpeed Sport exhaust, so I figured he was probably looking in the $175-$250 price range. Thus eliminating RB and Greddy.

The Mazdaspeed exhaust is not quiet. It is not ricey loud, but it has a deep tone to it.

If you want quiet, I would not choose Mazdaspeed.

I have Mazdaspeed exhaust, but I like the noise :)

I think the tip of the Mazdaspeed looks good. The edges are rolled over it fits the cut out in the valance well. Around town the sound is not to bad but it can drown on on the highway.

I got my RB (Axelback) off a member on the forum for $150. You should be able to find one easily if you ask around.

I was looking at the Racing Beat's as well, but the setup for the P5 is closer to $400.00.

Anyone know why they're so much more expensive than the sedan version? Even used, i've seen the P5 version go on this board for like $350.

edit:
I should read more closely. The price difference must be due to the fact that the P5 RB is a CAT BACK system, not an axle back.
