Best Buy Install

wow!! so there's no training done as far as installation goes? i used to work at radioshack for a little while and we had to do training on so many things it was rediculous. i'm very surprised at the difference between the two retailers, especially since there is no car audio installation department at radioshack.

As I reported I was a salesmen so I do not know first hand what the install traing was although I was told it was "in house" which means they just put you to work.

Tweeter on the other hand is several weeks of solid training everyday for 8 hours. They call it basic. I could be a bit off on the amount there as i was allowed to bypass it.

1st MP3 in NH do you work at Best Buy

I did for 3 weeks a few years ago. I left quick becuase the training is a joke as are most of the products. The managers were morons and that s*** I can't take.

When I had my truck I had CC install my radio because they installed it for free. They also installed the speakers for free. Everything seemed fine, until I got into the truck and realized that they installed the one speaker crooked and so when you'd roll the window down it would hit the speaker magnet. Then I decided to get my p5 1 week later so I took everything out of the truck and realized that they had just taped the wires together. Nothing else, no shrink wrap, solder or anything.

That's when I did the install on the p5 myself. For the most part with head units it's just connecting the right colored wires to one another and that.... any monkey could do it. But the half-wits can't figure it out or just don't care.

Also the tweeter here is pretty bad, they have half the store devoted to car stereos but when I went in to get the wire harness it took 15 minutes for someone to help me, and I was the only one in the audio section. I stood at their counter and across the way there were 5 salesmen standing there doing nothing. I asked one of them to help me and they told me to wait at the counter and someone would be there.

I hate to yell but sometimes that's the only way to get people's attention. I demanded service right then and finally got helped. What should have only taken 2 minutes, because I had the part# and saw the bag behind the counter and pointed it out to him, took 30 minutes because they were too lazy or didn't care because I was only getting a $14 item instead of a $2000 tv and I think they run on commission.

I don't ever get anything from BB. I went in there looking for alpine speakers and the manager of audio told me they don't sell alpine because they're too expensive and that they think they have better speakers for sale. (rofl) I promptly left the store because I don't think pioneer or sony make good speakers.

I got my alarm installed at circuit city here in town, and it is fine. They asked where I wanted the LED to be placed, were very patient with all my questions, and spent the time to show me how to use the system (first car, first alarm). The guys that did the install are very knowledgeable. Actually I haven't had a problem with CC at all. Best Buy I loathe for many reasons. Here is a funny story about something that happened to me about a month ago. My boss sent me to go buy an SD card for the digi cam, so I figured I would go to BB and then while there check out all the games and tv's. So I am in the camera section and looking at the cards, and I see something off-the 128 mb card and the 64 mb were the same price. So I asked one of the sales guys which was the right price, and he said he woud find out for me. So he walked away, I stood there, for 15 minutes. I look around, and I see him talking to another sales guy, so I figured he must be asking him. 30 minutes pass. Then I see him coming my way, but then he walks past me! as he is doing so, he says "how's it going man" like he didn't know me, and he was on his way. So I said f**K it, and went to the registar area. I will fight for the 64mb price and get the 128 mb, and if they say anything, I will cause a scene. Luckily everything worked out and I got the better price.

As far as sales go...

...if you're looking for speakers (including subs), if the sales rep doesn't ask you what type of music you listen to before making suggestions...walk away.

...if you're adding to a current system and he asks what you have then disses it saying their products are better...walk away. If he compares what you have to something they have then suggests something a little better, then thats alright.

...i can tell right off the bat whether they know their s*** or not, however, i know many people cannot, and thats why Best Buy does so much business.

...but whether the sales guy knows what he's talking about or not, you still have to deal with the installers...find out if they have worked with your car. This is where going to a specialty shop is more usefull...the installers are close at hand. The sales guy, if he isn't sure, will go to the back of the store and come back with an answer...any time they do that, you can be sure at least one of the installers knows his s***.

...basically what I have learned from retail is...do it yourself. Don't rely on sales people to tell you if it has a remote, you should know already. Do your research. Go to the shop/store and listen to the different products, take their information, then do some more research. Come back and buy it, or buy it online, Then install it all yourself.

Head units, and speakers are very easy to install. If anyone is hesitant about it, we are here to help.

Hey MP5s Make Ready,

If a Tweeter gave you s*** like that get intouch with corperate via email or somehting. They have no patience for that s*** at all and work very hard to prevent it.

I can't nor would I make an excuse for them but I know how it is for me when I have to work a Saturday alone in the mobile department and I am 4 customers deep plus I have to deal with the idiot installer I am trying to get a quote from but he feels its more important to talk to his buddy about riding to the beach next week. Ad to this someone on the phone and I basicly will have to ignore someone. Nothing I can really do.

1st mp3 in nh....it's nothing personal. You just have to know your stores and here where I live in houston they all struck out, luckily there are plenty others if I need to go somewhere else. It was just so funny at tweeters because it was during the week at around 2 pm. I work retail so I am more patient then most, especially when there are tons of people in line giving the sales guy a hard time. But when I'm the only one there and there are 5 guys standing around and make me wait 15 just for a harness that's right behind the case then I get a little irritated. But like I said you just have to know the store. Everyone's different.

Like I said if you ever get crap like that froma tweeter contact the manager or corperate. The worst that will happen is you'll get a discount :D.
But Tweeter actualy sends there customer complaint mail out to all the stores and makes the managers read it during the store meetings so everyone is aware that that crap is not tollerated.

Update

Ok so this post has been dormant for months but its mine so I can resurrect it. Just wanted to update as I may finally be getting money for this. They didnt like my estimate so an appraiser came to look at my car today. Hes faxing me his estimate tomorrow and well see what he thinks.

Damn man, they still haven't re imbursted you yet???
Damn, I would think they already did that!

I think tweeters or Myer emco are the best audio places. I had the best experinces with them

BB and CC are horrible with customer service.
I would never do back there again
(or at least to the installers)
The Sales rep. are good, I like them......Two thumbs up for them!(2thumbs)

best buy installers are the biggest bunch of retards ever. it took 4 trips to get a head unit installed. they then refused to let me use my own amp kit and wanted me to buy there very overpriced amp kit because their installs have a lifetime warranty.

They have a lifetime warranty because you are going to have a lifetime of problems! :D My first ride back in 1990 was done at circuit sillies and they did a number on me as well. They had the amps' gains turned all the way up, spliced in to RCA outputs on an EQ/Crossover that I had installed, and broke the same EQ's dash inserts. I didn't catch any of this because it was all hidden. Ony when I had the system taken out to be installed in another car, I noticed the s***! I also had alternator whine and had to take it to a local car stereo shop and they spent 2-3 hours of labor correcting Circuit Circus' cheap ass install. I was only charged for 1 hour and stuck to the shop from that point on. Funny thing is, is that later I ended up getting a job with the same shop and we made more business from other shops because this place wasn't after a quick buck. Every one was so fed up with the bulls*** and being jerked around that they came to our store. No advertising, but just word of mouth made the owner a rich man.

Here in Charleston, SC, there are news stations that help customers get their money or service done. I would look in to that or at least threaten them with that or threaten them with getting a lawyer. The other thing you can do, and they don't like this either, is file a complaint through Better Business Bureau. They will have 30 days to comply and if not, there goes a strike against them. After so many strikes within so many years, the BBB does an investigation on the business consumers are having problems with. From a business' standpoint, it's the last thing you want to happen and being that Best Buy is a "chain," that supervisor can lose his job for not getting the issue resolved right away. (guns) (getsome) (gun) I think this will definitely speed things up a bit!
