Best $50 I've spent so far (Intake)

Zoomer,
I would keep an eye on your filter. Like I stated earlier, it appears to be a paper filter, unlike K&N's cloth/mesh material. Your filter may start to break down. Just an FYI.

Haig,
Mine is VERY close to that tubing. What I did was pull it away from it and tighten the clamps on the intake so that it didn't hit. I also wonder if the sound you are hearing isn't the butterfly opening on the throttle body. Of course, I could be mistaking this as well and have a problem I don't know about. I'll have to open the hood and check, now that this has been brought up.

Same here I simply torqued and tighten it back some. The engine will rock back when in gear, so if it is almost touching turned off it will hit it in gear.

haig, you should really adjust your intake ASAP! You're right, it's rubbing/touching when give it some torque, and the last thing you want is your Master Cylinder to give out on the freeway. I'm sure that if you fiddle around with it, you can get it to never touch. Maybe another $3 bracket from Home Depot is in order...;)

what do you guys think of the idea of taking the whole thing off, then somehow cutting the end that goes into the manifold by about 1/2 - 1 inch. This would make my life a lot easier....

It would provide much more clearance and no more headaches.
Hopefully if I do this, I won't cut too much that the intake is nearly touching the engine block...

Finally, what about getting someone to custom make a 2" pipe for that portion of the intake...This way, from filter to MAF, 3" and from MAF to engine 2"...wouldn't this simulate the AEM V2 that is not available for our cars?

The first idea of cutting a lil bit off is a good one! Someone around here or Protegeclub did it and it worked. All you need to cut is like a quarter inch. ;)

Well, took a look at mine and it's hitting too. Guess I'll be repainting the darn thing.

About cutting a bit off. I think I will try that as well. Just make sure you smooth the edges down and clean the pipe out real well. Don't want anything metal going into the engine!

I agree...smooth is good...

I think I fixed it by bending the L-bracket to less than a 90 degree angle. Now it clears the master cylinder by a whole lot and the little tubing by enough as well...

i have one of those...the best solution i found was to get a brackest from a hradware store that is about double the thickness from the one they give you... mount that from the air flow sensor to the engine, you will see where it lines up... mine almost wore through the tube before i noticed it so i repaired it with 5 minute epoxy... here is a general pic....the brace goes from the a.f.s., under the tube to the engine!!!

Mine's in the mail....

so is this one unsafe to use straight out of the box? What do I need to do to it to make it usable?

i dont have mine yet, its in the mail, can someone tell me exactly the issue with it hitting stuff and show a pic of before and after fixing the problem?

Here's a close up of what I did. For the Air Temp sensor I just drilled a small hole in the plastic ring around the base of the filter. Works like a charm.
