Benefits of 6.5" speakers?

I hate posting a question when there's already been a thread out there to answer my question, but I've done some searching & can't seem to find an answer.

What are the benefits of replacing the stock 5x7's w/ 6.5" speakers? I've upgraded all my cars w/ new systems, so I'm not intimidated by building a custom bracket so 6.5's will fit, but I can't seem to find any info. on why I should do this (vs. simply replacing the stock w/ a better quality 5x7"... I'm going w/ Infinity regardless of size... it's just a personal preference.)

Am I going to get a better sound (mids or lows) out of 6.5" ?

BTW - I'm going to use the stock 6-disc changer w/ a 4 channel amp.

I upgraded the stock system in my Yellow Protege5 B4 it got totalled in an accident...

Can't really answer your question, but that was a nice setup you had in your P5... Too bad it got totalled. Now that you've driven the 3 for about 5 months, how does it compare to the p5?

6.5's have typically better midbass in most ocasions. Most after market components come in 6.5.

I love my 3... not to take anything away from the P5. I actually think that the 5 was more fun to drive (it gave you great feedback on exactly what's going on underneith you), it just lacked the horsepower. That's not to say that the 3 is a rocket, but the extra 30hp sure does help.
