BEGI kit install=minor problems on MP3

:( Hey guys its Friday night and I'm still Boostless:( Two minor problems with the BEGI kit when unstalling on a MP3. #1 The downpipe holes that go on the cat are too small and are off center a little to fit the 5 studs. Problem easily fixed : Drill the holes a little bigger which the techs at Mazda did. #2 The o2 sensor on the downpipe is located where it wont fit to clear the wastegate and it can't be adjusted or twisted to fit. CORKY is in Mexico till mon. so there is really no one to converse with about the problem.

We did talk to Jeff whom I believe installed Wshades' turbo and he said the downpipe on the P5 slid right on to the cat and they had no problems, and that the o2 sensor was clear of the wastegate. We did look at a P5 and the studs are smaller than the MP3 and the o2 sensor does look shorter.

I guess all I need is the shorter o2 sensor which they coudn't order till mon. I'm going to try and find one this weekend.

This kit has yet to be installed on an MP3 and I hope the folks at Bell Engineering will help us with this problem Monday.

Also something I thought was kind of strange , one side of the manifold had been machined but not the side where the turbo bolts on and there is no Gasket for it. The same for the downpipe coming off the turbo. No gaskets?? The service tech at mazda has been there over 25 years and has worked on lots of turbo'd RX7's and Miatas has never seen a kit with not gaskets on the turbo.

Maybe one day I'll be boosted.....:(

I'll keep you guys posted. Later

YOu shouldn't need a new sensor...Corky should make the minor adjustments in his kit. This goes for the downpipe holes as well.

I don't know about the whole gasket situation, but not having one doesn't sound good.

When did they start working on it?

Yeah your gonna need gaskets for sure. Fitment issues always arise on turbo kits You will need to use some ingenuity and modifying. Corky Bell should help you out on your problems.

No gaskets....well, there is always a chance that it will fit the head just perfect, right? :p

I wish you good luck with that sir, I dunno about the other stuff but a gasket for our car shouldnt be too hard to find

Some turbo kits don not come with gaskets. The Drag kit I had didn't come with any, just have to make your own which is easy.

I don't have gaskets between the turbo and the manifold and the downpipe. Guys at Extreme Machine machined the flanges for perfect fit and I don't have any leak! Every thing fit very good.

Well Jeff at BEGI whom I believe installed Wshades' turbo said that it was like that and to jus bolt it on. I was like :wtf:? Corky was in Mexico thurs & fri and he should be back Mon. I am anxious to see how corky handles this on Mon. meanwhile its at the mazda dealership .....waiting.... damn I'll be glad when its done!! but I want it done right !!!

I don't have any gaskets. No leaks. Just make sure you apply even pressure all the way around.

All 02 sensors remain in the stock locations. If you are talking about the opening in the side of the downpipe, that is for an EGT guage. If you do not have one just plug it with an old 02 sensor you might have in the trash. Make sure you cut all the wires off. If you have two machined surfaces no gasket is needed. Gaskets seal imperfections. When Corky returns he will take care of you.

OMG!! they were trying to place the o2 sensor in the downpipe!!! I could have been boosted all weekend!!!!!! $%#%^^^%$@##%^&&&*)&^($%*%#$!!!!!!!!! SON OF A ^%#$$$#&^$%!!!!!!!! as for machined the "tech" said only one side of the manifold was machined. but anyway damn!! I'm so freakin pissed!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Can you break this down for us? Possibly involve a diagram or so...

Thats why you don't let a dealership install a turbo. They may know how to fix a Mazda, but turbocharging requires a vast knowledge. There are alot of little things you have to remember. One very important thing is to make sure the oil feed line is on top. Oil in a turbo is gravity fed, so it must be on top. That should be in the instructions though.

Before you jump on them, make sure that is what they were attempting. Did you look at the problem with your own eyes?

Actually, the only thing that needs gravity's help is the oil draining out of the turbo. The oil is under about 70psi of pressure.

I just spoke with Corky and turns out that all have been reviewed and have solution.
1. Corky is getting his hands on the gasket at the kat to check the drill holes and will adjust as needed.
2. The downpipe is being modified to allow for the O2 sensors hieght.
3. They never use a gasket between the manifold and the Turbo since they will be prone to blow out. They machine the turbo inlet and manifold flat on all of their kits to get a perfect seel.

All of these problems are being remadied and will be solved before more are shipped including mine that should be on its way by next week.
