Beeping sound whilst driving. About 20-30 seconds.

Mazda CX-5 Touring 2016
Hi! I experienced a beeping sound whilst driving that went on for about 20-30 seconds in my 2016 Mazda CX-5. No warning lights appeared. Read the manual but no warning beeps appear to correspond with what I was hearing. Any ideas anybody?

Did you have anything heavy in the passenger seat? I recall beeping in my car a while back when I had a heavy bag there and the seat belt was not fastened.

Something in the passenger seat, mine does that with grocery bags. Have to buckle the belt to stop the beeping.

Yes, I definitely had a bunch of items on that seat. I will try it out and put something on that seat to see if that's the sound I heard. THANKS everybody!

You can grab an old seatbelt latch from a junkyard to silence the passenger alarm.

My 6 used to do this if I had my cell phone plugged in to charge and lying on the passenger seat. I actually had a contact at Takata (who made the occupant sensors) and made a bug report. I bet they had bigger fish to fry, and it never went anywhere...

The light for the passenger airbag is in the horizontal strip above the climate controls. If the system senses that the passenger seat is empty, the idiot light that says the passenger SRS is disabled will constantly be lit while the ignition is on.

so what's the "fix"?
If I have a heavy backpack on the front passenger seat but don't want to "buckle up" the backpack--what can I do?

Put it in the back seat and stop straining your shoulder to lift it over to/from the passenger seat.

If the sound it's triggered by the weight on one of the seats, you should also have a visual warning on the centre console, above the HVAC control panel. If there's nothing there, maybe the sound is coming from the speed warning.

maybe I should make a new thread...

I'm curious if there's a way to...
(1) disable the front passenger seat no-seatbelt warning, or
(2) silence the warning chime

OK, so it's the seatbelt, got it. How about placing the rucksack down on the floor, in front of the passenger seat?

yeah, I could... but sometimes the floor can get filthy.

I would like to put my bag on the seat.

Reading through the manual, looks like its some "electrostatic sensor" in the front seat that detects whether or not a "person" is using the seat. So, if your bag has some water or electronics in it that may set it off.......

why do we have technology to alarm to a "problem" that does not exist?!!

I bring a backpack with me to work every day. I put it in the seat behind me on the same side of the car. It isn't that much trouble to open the door to grab it, and it saves my shoulder from the awkwardness of pulling it from the front seat next to me and then then rolling out the door with it past the steering wheel. This is a non-issue IMO.

When you hit 110 MPH you'll get a warning.

How fast were you going?

;)
