Beeping Problem with Keyless Entry

2013 Mazda 3
Hi! I'm new to the forum and relatively clueless about cars. I have a 2013 Mazda 3 iTouring that I've only had since September.

I had an odd occurrence today. I have push to start and keyless entry. I was out running errands and at one point I got out of the car and went to lock the car by the button on the door handle and it wouldn't lock. In addition the car kept beeping. The beeping was the same as I've heard before when I have the key fob in my pocket, have started the car and get back out of the car with the key fob in my pocket to scrape snow or ice off the windows. The car just continues to beep every 2 seconds until you get back in and the car recognizes the advanced key. I tried opening and closing the door a couple to times and even got back in and started the car up once and turned it off again. When I got back out to lock the car again it still wouldn't lock and started beeping again. I couldn't find anything left on, like the lights, or anything else that would give me a clue as to why the car kept beeping. I also tried locking the car from the key fob and it failed to work. Eventually I just walked away from the car and as I got far enough away the beeping stopped. I was just running into a convenience store to grab something to drink anyway. I ran a couple more errands and parked the car at least 3 times after this and never had the problem again. I guess I'm just concerned that it could be an ongoing problem, like a battery or something and I'd rather resolve it before I'm left stranded somewhere, or it leads to a bigger problem. I also don't like the idea of leaving the car unlocked. The only other thing that might matter is that it's really cold here today. We got snow last night and it was between 10-15 degrees when I was out today. Could temperature be causing something like this? I was planning to call the dealership tomorrow since I need to schedule the first oil change anyway, but was hoping someone else had a similar situation and could advise me what this problem could be. Since it's not happening now I doubt the dealership will do much until they actually witness the problem. My only other explanation is that the car is mad at me because I haven't washed it or took it out when it was cold. LOL Thank you.
