My 07 mazda cx9 grand touring didn't start nor it cranked. The shop told me the battery is weak. Does it make sense this is the reason? And which battery is the best to use?

Sure, that's a fair explanation. Did you boost it to get to the shop? If so, almost certain. As well, an '07 with the original battery? Even more likely.

Re choice in replacement, I've used many brand names over the years and I can't say that I thought one was better than the others. I live in a cold climate and they all last around 5 years.

Yes, I did boost.
I live in NYC

I like getting the Yellow MAXX batteries from Wal-Mart, that way if you ever have any issues, you can be fairly certain there is a Wal-Mart around to take care of the issue. They come with a good, long warranty. And Wal-Mart is good about the warranty and/or pro-rating the battery.

There are like 2-3 large manufacturers of batteries, and they make all the batteries and put the different labels on them for the different retailers.

Also, if you want a second opinion on the battery, basically any auto parts store will test your battery for free, I am pretty sure Wal-Mart would too - just not 100% on that. Good way to confirm the diagnosis before making the investment in a new battery.

If you live in Brooklyn go to the Costco on I believe 39th st. They sell the interstate for a very good price and it has a 42 month free replacement if I remember correctly.
