has anyone found a good relocation kit for the 3s, to put the battery in the trunk to free up some space under the hood

Expect alternaotr whine if you install an amp for your speakers later.

We typicly did them behind the rear tire wells on custom built shelfs. Sometimes on their side to save space.
Becuase its in the car at that point, I'd suggest going with an optima battery.

I'm pretty sure battery relocation kits are universal. I would get an Optima battery as stated.
And the alternator whine is because of an bad install. But most likely you are not relocating the battery and installing a huge system.

Putting a battery in the back of mazdas are all but a guarentee to get alternator whine. The install can't prevent it atleast on the protege, 626 and MX-6. I even had the MX-6 looked at by one of, if not the best installer on the east coast, Derrick Kenny of Sound in Motion.

Really on all mazdas. I do have to say I have never seen or been in Mazda with a relocated battery. But I have in other vehicles with no hint of alternator wine. Thats weird.

Well, I certainly can't say all mazda's As I haven't owned them all let alone installed in them. But i did battle with the 3 mentioned models. All of them had horrible alternator whine that was uncurable unill the battery was put back in the engine bay. I have a feeling it had something to do with that generation of cars engines or alternators. Perhaps they just produced to much AC voltage.
