Battery Issue?

Tried to start my 2014 CX5 2.5L in the airport parking lot after my plane landed last night and the battery was completely dead. The car had been sitting for 5-1/2 days there. Fortunately, I was able to get a jump but when I started it the ABS, TPMS and traction control lights were on and stayed on the whole 37 mile trip home. This morning I checked the battery and it was only at 11.9 volts so I've been charging the battery for the past few hours with my 15 amp charger. I was able to get it up to 98% charged and took it around the block. The check engine light is the only light still on.

The service dept at the dealership is closed until Monday so I'll take it in then. I'm thinking it may be a bad cell in the battery but it's pretty disappointing being the car is only 6 months old and just clocked 12,500 miles on it.

Well it's a 12V system, so what are you thinking the battery should be?

Fully charged around 13.4 volts. After charging it on 15 amp charger for 3-1/2 hours and can't get past 98% charged it reads 13.0 volts. Will take another reading in an hour to see if it's losing more as time goes by. Also have a P0882 code which is TCM control module fault which can be caused by a low battery. Good news is it should be the Dealerships problem to fix it. I'm just getting them all the data points I can before I take it in on Monday.

Actually best way to tell if the battery is good is by a load tester. Unfortunately, I don't have one. Good news is just has to get me 15 miles on Monday to the dealership.

My capacitor reads 14 or more volts sometimes. Usually 13-14 while the car is off. nvm I have a optima yellowtop, but even for the short time I didn't i'm pretty sure it was at least 12.8 when off.

I seems the CX-5 eats alot of juice when parked as others have reported dead battery. When I bought mine new, the battery was dead, and they had to charge it up. I think most new cars eat a lot of juice when parked with all the high powered electronics ... sort of like today's smart phones. If I ever have to park mine for a number of days, I'll remove the ground cable from the battery.

I once parked a mustang for 6 months that way. Went to storage lot with snow on the ground, put on ground cable, and it fired right up!

I find it easy to bump the dome light when using the sunglass holder. If bumped on it will stay on and run the battery down as there is no battery saver shut off. If the battery is not bad the dealer needs to test the dead current draw.

I've left my 2013 CX-5 AWD touring with tech package parked with OEM battery for 12 days, 9 days and a bunch of times at 5-7 days with no issue whatsoever.
I did kill the battery once by leaving the dome light on for three days but I hooked it up to a charger for a few hours and it started right up.

There is no reason to disconnect the battery unless you plan on letting it sit for a month or more.

The battery is fine if it reads ~13 volts fully charged. Full charge can even be as low as 12.6 or so depending on how many cells are on the battery. If you are reading less than 12 volts then yeah that's a problem but unless you measure while the alternator is running I wouldn't expect to see anything around 13.4 volts.
