here we go, what would give me the best bang for the buck (as i am short on the funds)(argh)

i guess the header, but then again i always had the notion (whether or not it was correct) that i should start from the front and work my way back (intake, header, exhaust)

well, yea, im leaning towards header

i am planning on turboing in the future, but i would want the header (or any other NA part) to tide me over untill then

matthew, did the header make a big diff in performace?

the cats are a big restriction, plus he already has a custom intake that probally does the job as good as any.

oh s*** i was misreading didnt see he already had the custom intake...def go for the header! nice difference in top end performance...just make sure you get the cel fix with it from apex motorsports...read my how-to in the how-to section about rm header

got it from racingmazda directly talk to vic there and tell him i sent you...tell him i was the one who ordered his last one that was in stock before the group buy and hell prolly remember me pickin his brain.

can i use it without the test pipe? i live in cali and i don't wanna get my ass slammed for no cats

You will get your ass slamed by CARB, becuase no header has an EO for a protege...with or without cats...sorry dude, you will probably pass an LEV emissions sniffer with flying colors with just the secondary cat, but when that monkey sticks his face in the engine bay he will see a nice shiny header without an EO number and tell you to sit and rotate...CARB kicks ass...

also from a latter post, the stock catalysts are actually pretty free flowing, the problem is the stock down-pipe...If you have to stay CARB legal, go with just a custom mandrel bent dowpipe, you will still see almost 7whp...and you will still have both cats, and no CARB Tech will see it...

i don't care about CARB, i can take that stuff off before the check (which i don't have to have for a while) im more worried about a cop picken up the smell, legality isn't the issue as far as smog is concered (and acctually on the OBX website is says that the headers are CARB exempt :bs:?

I voted for other/Suggestion..Go w/ nitrous...about $500 for a NX Kit..adjustable upto a 75shot!! goes perfectly w/ a intake..and can be added to any stock car w/ little modifications!!

Chas:D

Ahh..turn w/ to?? didn't you know that nitrous can be adjusted similarly like a turbo....You can have it shooting 35shot in 1st & 2nd..and like a 50shot..in 3rd..and like a 75shot..in 4th & 5th!

CHas

Well..It's how you want to set it up..Yes..You can have push button setup like that..but you will have a lott of buttons..

Or you can just get the NX adjuster (i forgot the name of the item)..basically you program in what shot you want in what gear..and no need to worry about what button to press!

But of course..that is not an item that comes w/ any nitrous kit..that will need to be purchased seperately..

i think price wise it's like 200bucks..not really sure..

Chas

Nitrous is cheaper initially, but factor in the cost of refilling that tank after 100,000 miles...tips the scales in favor of other mods if the nitrous is used often...

I think Nitrous is great, but I also think it should be accompanied with the various bolt-ons and minor NA mods before it is introduced...

Remember you will still have just a FS-DE with an intake when the nitrous is off...
