Bad voice recognition + navigation for Europe?

Hello,

First of all thanks to all helpfull hints which can be found in this forum. I am from Europe and have improted my CX-9 from US. It is a Grand Touring version with Navigation system and Bose audio system. I own it now for 3 days, so far everything is working very well, except for the voice recognition.

I thought it is due to the fact that I am not a native speaker but as I read in this forum it happens from time to time also to native speakers. All normal comands for the phone are well recognised but I am simply not able to add any new entry to the phone book, all numbers are not recognised correctly, the system usually adds some numbers which I never said...Would it be possible to add phone numbers manually?

In addition, as expected, the Navigation CD does not work in Europe. I know that this issue won't be interesting for most of you, but would anyone know whether it would be possible to purchase relevant CD for Europe in US. Alternatively, could please someone ask his local dealer? Unfortunatelly, Mazda does not sell CX-9 in Europe, so they are also not able to assist with this issue.

Thank you very much for your help.

Best regards,

O.

Only CX-7 is available in Europe, as far as I know CX-9 is determined primarily for US market, god knows whether it will be available in Europe at all....

Minaka,

I am English and have had exactly the same problem "can not add any entries to the phone book" even after voice training exercise. Too much of a coincidence that as the only two English people on this forum we have both have bad VRS in our BT systems, thus it must be our accents. I'm almost tempted to get my American neighbour to come in and do my phone book. I didn't work with my crummy American accent.

Glad to know I'm not the only one out there with the same problem.

EtoileBrilliant,

Thank you for your answer, it is funny and now I at least know that I could not do more with my well trained Oxford-English accent...:-)

I'm also English - bluetooth doesn't recognise my voice either. Navi seems to work a little.

How did you guys from UK solve the navigation issue? Is there a Navigation CD for Europe working in CX-9? I have lokeed at official Navteq website and could not find it... Any hint where could I purchase the correct CD would be really appreciated.

Thank you for your help.

I have one for Western Europe.
Nice guys from local Dealership pulled one CD out from Mazda 5 and it works.
Sad part is - I rarely need Western Europe - i need Eastern Europe (pissed)

If anyone is intrested - i may upload the image to some anonymus ftp site...

I lived in the UK for 4 years when i was growing up, unfortunately I cant plausibly fake an english accent. . .I just found the quote below humorous. Just one more example of that saying that "England and U.S. ..two great nations seperated by a common language" . ..

We (me & wife) play with the VRS for a while last weekend because she also is having problems. We have hispanic accent and she thought that could be, but we found out the system has problems recognizing only here voice.

Seems the VRS has problem recognizing women's voice. Maybe is the high pitch vs a deeper voice problem. I know after having her try to talk like a man (and not laughing :) ) the system was recognizing better.

voice recognition (mic gain/microphone placement)

Has anyone actually had this navigation voice recognition problem escalated to Mazda? Does Mazda care about this situation in your opinion? Has anyone experimented with the microphone placement or cover to help with this issue? mic gain adjustment in the system? I'm curious how many people have reported it to Mazda and left the dealership without a answer? I'd like to fight Mazda but can't do it alone.. I'm rather disappointed that we pay $2000 for a option that isn't fully functional as it's stated... and yes of course I realize Mazda is not the only one that may have problems like this but I feel it's a fixable problem but I don't think Mazda thinks it's big enough to dedicate people to resolve the problem. (scratch)

I believe Toyota and Lexus use the same brand of Nav. It will be easier to find a T/L disk floating around.

Thank you caspeed, I will try. Currently, I am using in my CX-9 navigation DVD from Subaru...:-)

Unfortunately, functionality is limited, as I can e.g. enter destination only in the form of coordinates....

Minaka,

Why don't you borrow a CX-7 navi DVD for test purposes from your local zoom-zoom dealership? If it works they can order one for you.

Hi Dalton,
i have the same issue with the nav and the CX-7. I need a map from europe. From what model and year is the disk that works in the cx-7 nav.
