Hey, my car was broken into last night. The guy was slick to get into the car without triggering my alarm or else someone would probably have heard it ... and then the thief would most likely have seen a guy out there with a heat firing away at him (gun) . (REALLY foolish and lucky of the thief to take that chance, cuz you really don't know how some people protect themselves)
The thief knew not to unlock the doors to prevent the alarm from triggering. He (must be a HE, right?) crawled through the window and did the damage inside and crawled right back out like a dog. It's too bad he doesn't know that the security code for the radio is activated, so it's not likely he can use it... but some poor fool might buy it not knowning that.
They tried to get into my trunk, but the trunk released was disabled. I originally thought my rear seat locks were busted, but I think I just forgot to lock them. I tested them and they seem to be locked and working. One side of the seat was folded down but they didn't get anything from the trunk (empty anyways).
I'm almost willing to say they used tools to get into the car, but I'm no professional at any of this. What do you think?
So now that what's done is done, the car has to move on. Need to plan on replacing the stereo and fix the dash mount. That's really the question here... I'm posting some pics of the damage, could someone take a look at this and tell me if the entire dashboard needs to be replaced or if I can live with what's broken? Stuff is scratched, but will live with it if it works.
I guess I will search for another fake CF cover replacement or aftermarket type. I'll find another radio and I guess I'll consistently remove the face plate until I own a garage... and I need to make the next radio installation more secure. I know you can tie down the radio with metal cable so that it would take a lot of work to steal the head unit (although that would also risk more damage to the car if they tried).
So my question is... the dash mounts are broke in some areas, will this be a big issue for another head unit installation? Thanks.
