Backfiring

my p5 backfire too i think. It only happens when i engine break. its like po popop lol i thought it could be the header hitting the oil pan but mmm it really sounds like explosion lol. So if it means the engine is running rich and i have a SRI, if the filter is really dirty(cuz of the winter here and everything and i dont know when the filter was changed last time) can it cause the car to run rich? I may just buy a cheap ractive one.

I just went to O'Reilys get new plugs. Put them in and it isn't backfiring as loud or as much now.

I take this back. It is now louder and there is much more.

Well if your not getting the proper air flow then you motor probably is running as good as it could. could have a little bit to do with that. Are you running a stock exhaust?

well there is a raceway right outside the town I live in that sells race fuel, I cant remeber how high the octane level is, maybe 104 I think. I want to do it but I'm scared it will mess up my motor.

Haha, that's awesome. Don't do it man.. it's overkill. I don't imagine it would cause any serious damage, it's not like you're putting in kerosene or diesel.. but still, just stick to 91-93 octane.

What other mods do you have besides the full exhaust?

wait, why would race fuel mess up the motor? what would it do?

I agree with everyone above. I ran a high flow cat but then i decided i am not having any kids so why do i care about polution...LOL... so then out with the cat. With the high flow it back fired a little but now without anything back there it can sound like gunshots going off. Always fun to do intown.

i dotn know if the last owner did it but i bought it at 140 000 km and i am now at 160 000km and ive never done it.

You might want to get it checked out.

Yeah I'm just waiting to see someone hit the floor.

I've seen that a couple times actually haha, but they were the result of old beater pos cars/trucks with ****** up exhausts backfiring like anti-aircraft guns. (gun)

I hope you're joking because that's the most selfish thing I've heard in a long time...do you have siblings who will have kids, friends who will have kids, cousins who will have kids, etc?

Yes that is why there would be an LOL there. Sorry i will try to be more serious on here. Don't want to offend someone. LOL.

u worried about backfire?.,.i will do anything to have a backfire.,.,i love that sound., :D

I don't mined it I was just trying to figure out why it all of a sudden got so loud. Did you read the whole thread?

the race fuel shouldnt do anything to your engine at all. the octane is just like an efficiency rating for the gas; like how well it combusts. it shouldnt be a problem at all, id love to run 104 ha. my pro5 runs so nice with premium in there, i couldnt imagine 104. and as far as the backfiring its probalby just cause it is hotter like you said. the protege in stock tune runs really rich so it shouldnt be anything bad. also the timing belt doesnt needed to be changed untill 107k at least in the pro5 ( wouldnt think it would be different in the MP3). I have also drive a 76 bmw and some guys on my forum for that car run their carb's really rich and install a spark plug connected to the electrical system with a switch inside the cabin to the exhaust so when they flip the switch the car spits flames haha. kinda cheesy but also kinda badass in a way too hahaha; just an interesting sidenote since we're talking about backfiring and the what not ha

I installed catback and my car was backfiring a little too. recently I added highflow cat and it got real loud but I don't mind. so far I run 87 octane gas. on my next fill up I'll try 94 and see if there are any changes. I guess the backfiring is normal then
