I have an AWR oil pan and just wanted to find out what it is made of before I weld a bung on it for the oil return. I was thinking it would be Aluminum. Anyone know for sure?? Thanks

i mean, is there a bung on the oem part, so when u swap it you need to reinstall a bung? Thanks.

I think it may be steel, but I put my oil return line in at the main bearing support plate (aluminum "upper" oil pan). That's where Mazda put it on the MSPs.

get a magnet. you'll get your anwser (glare)

I did the same think as Rogue. Why drill a hole in that pretty awr oil pan? Tap and use a -10 45 degree fitting and you're golden

How tough is it to remove that upper oil pan portion? The service manual makes it look straightforward.

to remove that upper piece, you have to pull the tranny o_O seriously though you do. I wouldn't be surprised if the clutch and flywheel had to be off too.

but if you just take off your oil pan you can tap that piece without removing it

is anybodys stock oil pan rusting out? mine is starting to and I am going to have to break down and get a new one.also I hae a msp so iwont have to tap the upper pan as it is already done right

mine had a ton of surface rust forming on it.. I took a grinder with a 3m synthetic paint/rust remover to the pan and then repainted it.

Oh god that's horrible. I could tap it, sure, but it'd be tough to drive anywhere to have it welded. Maybe if I drove really fast, and ran a funnel from the engine bay to the driver's seat and poured fluid in while going...

jeebus rogue, your car sounds mean as hell, what is your setup?
it sounds like that because I only had exhaust to the mid-pipe :) I have an INJEN, single runner intake manifold, MSP exhaust manifold, GT28R, MSP s-pipe, and the Vibrant turbo-back on the car.

you won't need to get anything welded if you drill and tap that piece.. just thread in a 45 degree fitting and be done.

See, as much as I hate to, I need to dril land tap my shiny new AWR pan... Not only for the oil return, but also the oil temp sender... bad deal...
