AWR Mounts in!

Holy s*** does the car vibrate! Oh well. If you want to play you have to pay. No more wheel hop and a much better feel of the car. All in all I'm very happy. Now I just have to remove all of my spare change in the ashtray cause it rattles like a motherf*%$er!

did you get the rear in?? if so please explain how. I got just the front and it rattles quite a bit, but the car feels much better while driving

paulmp3, i was just about to write exactly what you did ;)

by the way, i found that after using an impact wrench instead of by hand to tighten the front engine mount nuts, the vibration was reduced a lot

My rear one was squeeking;) ;) . I had it replaced at the dealership I work at. The mechanic said it was a real pain in the ass! He had taken out a bunch of stuff(cruise servo, air intake etc.)to get at the wire harness that totally covers the nuts for the mount. Their is a plastic shield that goes around the wire loom that has to be removed. Then you will see that the stud that holds the shield in place is in the way of one of the nuts. I thought maybe it would thread out but it broke off. Not a big deal to me because there's plenty of other brackets and things to hold the harness in place. You'll need a zip-tie for the wire loom shield because you have to cut it to take it off. He had them both put in in about three hours. If you need a more detail explanation I'll have to talk to him tomorrow. It's definately not a job that I would want to do an a garage floor.

Yea. I just checked out the pictures you took while your motor was out. Way to take the easy way out.:) J/K What a difference though, huh? The vibration is kind of annoying but that's why I have a loud stereo right. How many miles do you have on yours? Any changes in the vibration since you put them in?

Yeah, they will kinda settle in once you drive for a few thousand miles. In hot weather here in Texas, onec your car is warm, it's not that noticalble. I fear what it will be like once winter hits. (nervous)

I did my rear on with like a 2 or 3 foot extension and slid it through the top by the firewall. I found this to work very well. Wasnt that complicated with the extension bar.

1garnetredlx - take your ash tray out, go to Wal * Mart, into the arts & crafts dept...get 2mm thick black foam sticky sheets...cut them up, and line your ash tray w/ them. It gets rid of most of the sound. I plan on doing the same to my glovebox soon.

can tightening them with a impact wrench increase performance since they are not moving the inside of the car taht much (not as loud) i had mine done at the dealer, and its so loud i cant hear pple talk under a certain rpm

i'm waiting until i do the eventual transmission work such as lsd, stage 2 clutch, lightened flywheel and shotpeened shift forks...then get that other motor mount out (i tried the 1/2" drive with swivel socket and 1 1/2' extension and 2' breaker bar and started to strip it)

well tightening the front mount with an impact wrench certainly helped a lot. and i mean a lot. the difference was like night and day. before impact wrench the car was like the old v8 ute (for you yanks - truck) i used to have. after it, not much worse than before.

i still wanna get into the reat mount. i tried using the impact wrench with long extension bars but none of the 3 nuts would budge. would anyone reckon it would be better to have the nuts as cold as possible or heat them up??? how hard is the cross nut and bolt to get to (i havent tried that one yet)?

later

yup its a b**** to get that back mount in. my buddies and i did it in a about 3 hours. we just used about 3 or 4 extensions and busted the bolts loose. put the mount in and tightened them back up with the extensions again. but we didnt have to cut the mount for the wiring harness. was able to unbolt it and put it back. you get use to the vibration, and it does calm down after a while. mine only vibrates really bad at idle with the a/c on. winter driving isnt that bad.

Patrick - just look at it this way. the more vibration your car has, the more the tits on the hot peice of texas female ass thats in your passanger sit will be bouncing along in harmony with the motor.

I have to tear out my whole interior cause due to my stereo and the mounts, EVERYTHING rattles like a b****. I'm going to dyno-mat it and use a shitload of foam tape to get rid of most of them. I may try your ashtray trick because I miss having my spare change in my car. :)

It was much better today because it's hotter than hell here! Do you even have winters in Texas?J/K
I'm in the process of looking for a beater for the winter so that I don't have to drive the Protege. Shows how smart I am. I sold my RX-7 and Taurus SHO so that I could have the Protege to drive all year round. Now I'm in the same situation. Oh well. I wanna get an older 323 or MX-6 and make it into a sleeper/winterbeater.

Which LSD are you going with? I'm going to get the Mazdaspeed one I think.

Since I have no idea where the rear motormount is(never even looked), this may be a stupid question...Im going to get a nbew clutch put in sometime soon, would it be easy to get the rear mount in then?
