Aux Input, On Its Way

Wow. that's an awesome write-up! I'm going to try that. haha. i still haven't figured out how to get it out. I accidentally bent the brackets out instead of in, and i'm having trouble getting them back in. It's a real pain.

In my lexus, there's about 20 screws/bolts that you have to remove in order to get to the HU, but at least it's straightforward.

Thanks teknesia. Installed in 15 minutes!

I found if you plugged the jack into the board before mounting, it helped to maneuver the board around inside the hole.

I just put mine in today (P5), but I pulled the HU out. I would not recommend trying the " I can make my own Hu removal tools from a coathanger" After trying for over an hour to remove the HU with the make it yourself version of the HU removal tools I finally said F***it and went down to buy the real thing ($5.99 ea set @ Pepboys)and had the HU out and on my workbench in less than 5 mins.....took less than that to hook up the Auxmod......
Rule: It Always Pays To Have The Right Tools!

And why would you say that??

Becuase they arent that much less than just getting a ipod interface... I guess if you had a zune, thats a diff story.
Id rather just get a system that is made for iPod, thats what I have now and its so much better than a aux in. Plus, for long trips it charges it and you dont get engine noise if your trying to do both like you do with an aux in...

and and and, Kenwood has the ipod cable for around $25/w/video for $35 so you can watch all of your podcasts/movies while your driving...
who doesnt want to do that?

That depends on your car....Last I knew, there is not an interface available for the P5, so for those of us with older Mazdas the auxmod is the best we can get....works for me!!

Yeah, thats true. I had a M3 and just ended up ripping out the factory radio and replacing it with one that had everything in it that I wanted...

Has anyone heard anything about the auxmod-advance release? I subscribed to "updates" a month (or so) ago when I bought my P5...

Just curious if there is any news out there. As I'm new to the P5 scene, I have no idea how long the advanced unit has been "in production." A few months? A few years? Anyone know?

I guess I could just buy the basic for now and then sell it and buy the advanced later...

Few questions...

- Will the auxmod basic charge a 2nd gen nano?
- Will the auxmod basic stop play when the ignition is turned off and resume when ignition is on?

Thanks!

No & no. The auxmod uses the headphone output to play thru the stereo, so no "higher order" functions are useable. If/when they get updated version going that will be able to do that..or so they say...

I recently bought a 2nd gen Zune and was trying to find the best/cheapest way to use it in my car. I've read through the thread and found the Auxmod to be the best sounding/easiest to use (without affecting your radio). I was wondering if I would I need a GLI. Otherwise, I would assume I'd just need an aux cable to connect through my headphone jack to the Auxmod.

Thanks.

(Oh and I've got a 2002 P5 w/ the standard CD player.)

You will most likely need a ground loop isolator if you're going to be powering/charging your zune through the D/C socket. I have the auxmod, GLI, and a charging mount in conjunction with my zune and I absolutely love the sound.

Kudos to the AuxMod folks and davidoshea for figuring out the communications protocol in the radio.

What I learned:

1. The MD/TAPE player, CD player, and CD changer use a proprietary protocol to announce their presence to the processor. So there is no way to fool the processor into using the audio inputs on either connector without having the actual OEM equipment OR making your own board with a microprocessor that emulates the protocol.

2. With the OEM CD player or Tape player or CD changer, you can swap in the aux jack signals; this will work as long the cd or tape is in and playing.

3. There is a multiplexer chip on the radio circuit board that switches between the radio, cd player, tape player, cd changer, etc.

I finally pulled my radio out (6 screwdrivers shoved in the front holes worked pretty well), and poked around. I installed my own aux jack and switch (both tiny from radio shack) by switching in the aux left and right channels to the cd left and right (a couple cuts and soldering in 4 wires).

So contrary to popular opinion, it can be done!

If I had more patience, I might find out where the radio feed goes to the multiplexer and switch that out instead... that way I wouldn't need to have a cd inserted to make it work.

BTW, excuse my ignorance, but is my 2003 Mazda Protege sedan a Mazda 3. If not, what is it?

I'm wanting to set up my Zune with the auxmod and I am curious how you did the charging mount. If you have any would you be able to post pics ?

Thanks

Could you post more details about that ? Maybe some pictures if you havec some. I would be interested to do this on my car. I've talked about it with my cousin who is a electronics genius and he said it would be possible if he knew were to start.

It would also be easy for him if he had the head unit schematics. Is it available anywere ?

Thanks !

AUX MOD... again

Where I can buy AUX MOD? Sylfex site was not updated for an year, nothing on ebay.

I have a xcarlink adapter, but its AUX port already occupied by bluetooth. My XM radio uses FM module and it's sucks. If I only know it is so bad with AUX and satellite, I would get Hyndai instead :(

Mazda 6, Vagon 2007.

I gave up on the Mod since I could not get it to work correctly and purchased a Clarion unit from Crutchfield that has USB, satellite and 2 aux in. The one I purchased came with the XM hookups and antenna.

The Basic model is back in stock. I just placed my order today. I'll let you all know how it all goes.

Oh, Sylfex also made it known that it looks as though the Advanced model will not come to fruition. Something about production costs and such . . . I assume it's probably not as cost-effective to develop it anymore when aftermarket HUs already do what the Advanced model would do (and more) for close to what we could anticipate as its expected cost.

Since my phone (a Nokia 5800 XpressMusic) is also my main mp3 player, I'm planning to run my calls through my stereo too with the AUXmod. If my setup wasn't that way and I still needed to add Bluetooth for my calls, I would have just replaced the HU altogether.

All that said, can someone explain to me how/where to install and route the GLI and 3.5mm wiring when I install this thing?
