Automatic door locks

Does anyone know if there is a way to turn on the feature that locks the doors when you start driving? Or even if this exists? The 5 is the first car I've driven that doesn't lock the doors when you either start the car or start driving. very unusual!

Why would you want to have the doors lock when you are driving? I had that "feature" in my old cavalier and it was the most annoying thing ever. I had to unlock the door to get out of the car everytime. I could see if you didnt have child safety locks. (dunno)

well, if you have kids it's probably great...but i agree, it's the worst feature ever...if you can't turn it on or off...i have it on my explorer and i hate it...if you forget to hit the button when you get out, go around to the back and try and open the lift gate...nope..locked...back to the front doors to unlock them...i hate it!(pissed)

Hmm, never had that issue. On my previous cars, this was never a problem, you wanted to get out, just open the door. Opening the door unlocks the door you're opening. But I can see the issue with the hatch not unlocking

some cars have different options and they are usually where you read your mileage check there to see if not go to the user manual

I personally like the door lock feature. Granted the rear doors have child safety locks, but it's still a measure of security against the doors accidently coming open while doing down the highway. It's also protection against car jackings. While I don't think anybody should test the will of a car jacker, you have much more chance of getting away if your door was locked than if they open the door can get to you.

That being said, those are admitedly both freak occurances, so I see why people don't worry about them. Right or wrong, it just makes me feel a bit more safe and secure.

I also like them. My F150 has them, no problems getting out just pull on the door handle. Course the tailgate isn't hooked up to the automatic locks so I don't have any problem it.

opening the door in my explorer doesn't unlock all the doors :( i've had the truck almost ten yrs and i'm still not use to it!!

My Jetta had auto locks and they unlocked when you opened the door. It was only locked from the outside so it wasn't an issue. I 'm so used to it, I keep forgetting to lock the doors in the 5 and I dearly miss that feature.

Auto lock with a manual?

I've driven cars that have the autolock... but I've only seen it on cars with Automatics. It usually locks the doors when shifing from Park to Drive. I've never seen this on a manual... has anyone else?

What I would like to see instead... have the vehicle autolock once you've parked and taken the key with you. By the time I get all the kids and baggage out of the car, I keep forgetting to lock it. This is the first car we've had worth locking...

Yes, in my 93 Cavalier Z24, I had a 5MT and the way it worked was it automatically locked the doors the first time you passed 8mph after starting the car. For example, if you're driving, unlock the doors, then pull out from a light, it wouldn't lock for a second time. The system worked pretty flawlessly.

I had them on my 2000 Focus , 5 SPD.

VW's autolock at 10 mph, not in a gear and auto unlock when removing the key from the ignition (*all doors) and unlock when you use the door handle. It's quite convenient.
