Automated Traffic Enforcement

I'm sorry 2K3, but that's a completely bulls*** way to look at it. If you were driving home from a bar and you had been drinking (over or even near the legal limit) you DESERVE to get the biggest ticket you can... Driving intoxicated is completely different from speeding (in a non-reckless manner) sober; its the difference between being in control and out-of-control.
The cameras, if widely used, will actually put less officers on traffic duty because the job will "allready be done". That logically leads us to more drunk drivers not getting caught before they plow into me, my family, you, yours. etc. I'm sorry its not a rant against you but a rant against the argument. I call :bs:

As far as the cameras go, I assure you that I will fight them with everything that I have if I get a ticket like that in the mail... Speed limits are designed to keep vehicles within a range of safe operation at varied conditions (traffic, weather, etc) and it logically follows that the "limit" is more flexible at various times which is why officers let people who are "breaking the law" go at different times. These cameras are bulls***, they better not come here otherwise my paintball gun will get a workout...

Like I have said...I can understand that this should be enforced on bigger roads. The was a 2 lane semi-busy during the day residential road. They don't even make it visable. That's my point. I drive the road all the time and on this night I never saw any unmarked or cop car.

How did I get quoted as saying "blah...blah...blaa (blah)" when I never said that? strange...

If I've had a few too many beers, I don't drive. Its that simple. If I'm sober, and driving faster than the speed limit, and an officer feels the need to pull me over, so be it, I must have been driving unsafe; I think that's a call a human would have to make, and camera doesn't think, it just rakes in money on BS 24/7 monitoring of seemingly pointless areas (1:30 in a 25mph zone...why?)

I've read those RedLight camera articles berfore and agree with many of their 'con' points. But, I do feel that if utilized in the right intersections, they can help. I think they should be used to identify poor drivers so that officers can keep their eyes out for consistent offenders, not generate income for the government.

as a cop you take the oth to protect and serve. as a camera you are just made. the law is a living and breathing thing and there are midicating circumstances that come into play in every situation.
as much as we complain about cops we still respect them as the enforcers of the laws we have to live by. we see these PEOPLE as our protectors as well as assholes.
the people have gone through the training not the cameras. they are just a cheap excuse to raise money. the red light cameras are the same thing. i like the idea of the red light cams and i agree that they have saved many many lives and serve a purpose. its the speeding cams and the sub contracting out of enforcing these traffic laws that irk me.
as others have stated it does indeed seem that the government, both state and federal, are taking the power out of the public's hands and putting it into a machine that "knows" better then we do. its a scary thought that a machine is smarter then the person that made it.
man is the top of the food chain ( and yes women are there too). if we stop thinking for ourselves or let the government do all our thinking and make our choices for us then we will become a society of drones.
it has been written about by so many authors in the past and one that sticks out in my mind is the book "a wrinkle in time" where the lil boy that bounces his ball out of sync from everyone else is taken away by the authorities.
this country was founded by people that demanded to have a voice. are we going to let a photo dictate how we spend our hard earned money? NO i want to be able to prove my side in court against an agent of the state and then have my guilt determened by that and not a simple photo.
man i could go on and on on this subject but im at work and i cant just type about this all day

Very well put.... I see you can break down this subject very well. You are getting my point accross.

there is a spray that you can put on your liscense plate to obscure it when a picture is take. it looks normal when seen by the human eye, but not with the camera eye.

speeding cameras are bulls***(yeah i said it). redlight are ok. in the state of CA, speed traps are illegal... so speeding cameras will never come here... it's in our constitution or some highly official document like that.

well in tx u can't use anything that hides or obscure your plate for this purpose of running away from the "speed trap" camera.

But I think it's a double-edge sword. It's great that they are enforcing the law more evenly. Like in the case where everyone speeds get a ticket, unlike some people can seem to talk or "work" their way out of a tix with a cop. What I'm pissed about the heavy-sided of speeding tix to other traffic violation. I've seen so many people blocking intersection, reckless driving by weaving in and out of traffic, driving slow po in the left hand lane (I know this is allowed in the states but come on people, slow = right hand side). 18 wheelers trying to race with you and make you get stuck behind them and other driving behaviours that either the cop themselves do or they just let it go, yet if u go .000000000000000000000001 mph over the limit, the light comes on.
