lol...and you did. I might as well post here for others aswell, as it's what i would have replied with anyway
Autox is the grassroots of auto racing, and technically its not even racing, it's a time trial event. It's you against the course and the clock. You can run anything that passes tech inspection.
The best part about autox is the benefit of the driving skills it gives you that ultimately makes you a better and safer driver on the streets. It allows the pent up frustrations to have a release in safe environment.
It will also teach you about how to work on your car. As the more you do it, the better you get, the more competitive you become, the more you modify the car. It teachs you how to *set up* the car, how to use tires pressures to alter it's handling, damper adjustments, foot and hand placement, etc.
Your greatest asset are the hot shoes and long time racers that are at the event. Talk to them, 99% of the time, they are more than happy to offer a few tips on setup or driving technique. Ask for ride alongs, have them drive your car while you ride along.
The learning curve is steep and with each change to the car, beit small or large, it adds a spike to the curve. Learn the car as it sits, focus on *driving* techniques. The rest will fall into place in due time.
Most of all have fun, use your own timesplips and keep trying to beat the best one. After a few events or once your comfortable with the car, pick out a driver or 2 in your class and try to catch them.
for your first event:
1. Try not to tense up, relax and have fun. It's racing, but sometimes to be fast, you have to go slow. Don't overstep your limits.
2. Focus on you, the car and the course, nevermind about the clock.
3. Meet new ppl and network for help. Don't be affraid to ask questions, even alledged dumb ones.
driving tips:
1. Look ahead
2. look further ahead
3. no look even further ahead
