Well maybe not just yet, I am paranoid that I am gonna break my tranny......but am dying to take this thing autoXing.

But I did take it out to the track and this is what it did at bad ass Moroso(track sucks ass)

14.65 in the 1/4 @ 99 mph with really bad 60 foot times. This was launching at 4000 rpm feathering the clutch.

Sea Level
90 degree weather
80% humidity
7.5 psi of boost w/ 11 degrees of maximum ign retard
Amoco 93 octane
1/4 tank of gas
No spare
And my dainty 200lb 6ft frame

I think I can get better times in cooler weather and up the boost to 12 psi with c16 race gas. And possibly alcohol/water injection??This should net 13's.....muhahhaa:eek:

I also raced a 2002 MP3(I donot condone street racing in any way,its for stupid ass people that have no respect and value for life) well kinda raced one. I was on a long stretch of empty road way and was tuning my car(I was not driving, I was fiddeling with the link and keeping an eye on all the gauges) doing blasts in 4th and 5th gear to make sure I had a proper fuel mixture when outa nowhere this m3 pulls up next to us when we are accelerating at 60mph...we kept on until we hit about 120 and then we backed off. The m3 was ahead by about 2 car lengths but we stubbornly were on his ass giving him a hard time...needless to say he was impressed at the mp3's capabilities and gave us the thumbs up:D

Finally...we have a turbo MP3 1/4 mile time! 14.65! was this on stock rims and tires? No doubt...if everything came together and you make those changes...might break into the 13's...but with all that power...your traction is going to really suffer...get some steelies with slicks...then your talking Maybe mid 13's...even with the given circumstances...your times seem impressive...and your still running the stock internals...for now ;)

Great race story...next time...lets hear the version were the M3 was trying to keep up with you!

Good stuff!

Sorry man, I gotum

I will call you so, I can meet up with you to give them back.
I am off all next week.

Spoolin, as for breaking the tranny in AutoX, it really shouldn't be an issue. 99% of the time I'm in an autocross I'm in second gear and never shift. Once you get going you can usually just let it ride in second and it will have plenty of go juice in that range. Our cars do well up to 60ish in second. That's where an AutoX course is supposed to top out.

Good luck with the tuning, and good M3 notes. We need a kill though. :) (I dream of a turbo)

Spoolin, I did my first AutoX this weekend. You don't have to worry about the tranny. Like cjstringer wrote, you don't shift much in an AutoX. I use almost only my 2nd gear and the first gear in 2 realy tight spot!

I think it's lot less armful than 1/4 mile run and this is realy great. You must try that!!!

thats really cool Stou. You give me more confidence in trying it out. Maybe I will go with redwagon02 since he autocrosses a bit. Just hope I dont break my ride! :(

For autoXing, I just hope your lag time isn't too high. A couple of the guys that race in the area run turbos and they barely get spooled up before they have to brake again. I can imagine it would be fun to feel a little kick in the a$$ through some of the slaloms though. :)

Auto-Xing

Hey Spoolin,
Forget about RedWagon... he's still a newbie! That's right Rick, you are a cherry! His wife beat him out on one of their runs, so please don't take any pointers from him.:D Just kidding! You should definitely come out to the next event, July 28th. It would be nice to "not" be the only MP3 out there.

cjstringer, in my case I didn't had to much problem with the lag. Maybe a spot or 2 of the track but that's all. I did almost all the track in 2nd and tried to keep the rpm over 4000 to avoid the lag.

But it's a fact. I think it's a bit harder with a turbo car than a NA. You have to try to keep the rpm in a good zone, not to high not to low. I saw some people with NA car who was runing at very high rpm, even in the cutt-off zone. That's things we don't want to do with our turbo cars.

Spoolin, anyway you go there to have fun not to win. With our turbo cars we have to run in the open class because the turbo is not from the factory. I was in the M4 class. There's some modified turbo Audi, BMW, WRX and lots of exotic cars and do you know who make the best time..... some guys with go-kart with some 125cc and 250cc 2 stroke engine. Those things go very fast and handle like a F1. So we don't have any chance to win in this class!!! :(

So you go there to have fun and make some interesting experience like I did.... a 360 on dry tarmac! That's things you don't do on road.... (not me...). I saw some cone at the last second and try to brake and turn at the same time, result, 360! :D

Spoolin, you must try that! ;)

Actually here in the local/regional group that runs the auto-x in So. Fla, he would be running in a Street Modified class... still the competition would be tough, but certainly not go-karts. They have a class of there own. Have any doubts, check this link for SCCA Solo II Classifications . I've found it a great source of information especially for authorized mods.

That should not be a problem, I get full boost at about 3 grand:D

Whats up coolhand! I would love to go but unfortunatly I will be someplace better:p I will be at deals gap from july 25-aug3. There will be 500+ miatas/ 300+ turns in 11 miles in beautiful north carolina ( www.dealsgap.com ) Hope you are not to jealous:eek: J/K. When is the next event after that?, I will definetly try to make it.

Stou that sounds exciting! I will definetly give it a try. Sounds like fun!

Although it is easier to autocross a NA car, it is very possible to be competitive in a Turbo car. I have run, with at least some success, several Turbo cars. Among them a SAAB 900 Turbo, RX-7 2nd and 3rd gen turbos, a 944 turbo and oh yea a Buick Regal Turbo Sport Coupe. It can be challanging depending on the set up but is a lot of fun so go for it.

Sorry, I think that last post came across wrong. in NO WAY will I ever want to deter anyone from autoXing! It's the most fun thing I can think of coming across in the past few years of my life! It's all about the people, the cars, and the fun!
Just wasn't sure what the turbo thing would do for or against you. If you run at an SCCA event, you will be in a street prepared class as noted above. (depending on your other mods) It is loads of fun, and you get to see a lot of cool cars!
I should probably wake up next time before I start posting. :) Hope you make it out and have a great time! Nothing better than a day of throwing the car around a track.
As for me, I was event chairman at our last event. Couldn't get my mind focused on driving, and got 2nd in GS (out of 4) and 7th overall (out of 32). We had a really low turnout, as most of our competitors went to a divisional event out of state and others just don't like the heat.
Again, best of luck, and sorry if that last post came across wrong!

cjstringer,
I know what you you mean about the event distracting you from your driving. The last event I was the Solo Safety Steward for the event and I kept getting distracted. I coned two runs including my best two which is not normal for me. Oh well, I have to try to make it up this month.

Again, best of luck, and sorry if that last post came across wrong!

No need to apologize! I knew what you were trying to say. I also read all your posts reference auto x for one reason........Looks like you know what the hell you are doing:)

Thanks for the input and no hard feelings taken cjstringer
