Auto or Manual?

Like I said before, I wish I'd of got the Manual but the Auto is a nice change. Not too mention the wife can't drive a 5spd. DAMN!!

Maybe when the Mazdaspeed 6 comes out I'll have her taught by then.

I've read a couple debates on this before. Almost all, well just in case I'm wrong... most draggers use auto with sport shift.

Reason being that a well tuned auto or one with sport shift allows you to not have to remove power from the wheels when shifting. However, you lose a constant percentage of power due to the auto transmission (insert mechanical blah blah here).

In a manual, you get better efficiency from BHP to WHP but you lose power between shifts.

Apparently, the auto's mechanical disadvantage ends up winning in the end.

That being said, since I don't drag and I drive because I like to, I own a 5 spd. I feel like I'm in so much more control and it's so much more fun! I like being in control and if I wanted to simply press down on the gas and go, I'd.. no wait.. I don't want to do that.

Maybe in about 3-4 years time or when I get my next car and I have to commute long distances in heavy traffic, I'll get an auto. Until then... MT all the way!

right now i am loving it. But my roomate who has driven stick since he was 16 and my other friends who haev been driving stick for 5+ years say that they prefer auto. weird huh?

I know quite a few people with the same problem. "You gotta get stick...I love stick...I want to be in control...It's so much faster.........I hate Southern California traffic...I'm sick of manual...I wish I had an automatic!" I don't know about most folks who live in Southern California like me, but driving stick in the traffic here is a b****. When I'm wealthy enough to afford two cars, my "everyday/work" car will be automatic like my P5, but my "weekend/fun" car will be a stick. At least my sport automatic P5 is fun enough.

That;s the same way here in Allen. The traffic is inbelivable. The city I live and the surrounding cities are suburbs, so everyones is trying to get home from Dallas. Add that and the current highway constructions, PLUS the way some Texans drive around here...

I used to drive in stop and go traffic too - I just do what 18 wheeler truck drivers do. Get in the right lane, keep it in 2nd or 3rd and give yourself a lot of room (so what if cars cut in front of you) and just coast along. Minimize your stress.

Funny thing here in NJ is that when the economy tanked, the amount of bridge and tunnel traffic at all of the Hudson River crossings (Holland, Lincoln tunnels, George Washington Bridge, Tappanzee Bridge) just whimped out so everyday I'm flooring it over the Tappanzee. But 2 years ago, it was horrible.
