Auto or Manual?

Acutally it's better for a car to have a manual tranny...from what i hear b/c u can update the clutch and flywheel..to make the car faster...

Especailly when u are dealing w/ N20 like i am!

5 speed, no question. The auto tranny takes away a little of the power that our cars are lacking in the first place, and besides, you cant buy a Kartboy SS for an auto!

STANDARD STANDARD STANDARD!!!

Didnt any girls ever tell you how much they love watching a guy drive stick....they all do, well most of em...works for me!

If only my mom could drive manual...otherwise I'm stuck with my auto...:( ...but commuting to school everyday in Houston traffic, its :D

If I would install a torque converter, would anyone tell me how much time that would save me on the streets/drag strip?
Would anyone recomend one?

Real men drive manuals!!!!!

Exactly, don't call your self a racer if you can't drive manual.

Yes, it's better when a girl see you driving a manual, coz most of them doesn't..

To the guy who said NASCRAP uses "paddle shifted transmissions" (no offence-ok?)-youre crazy! They STILL use after all these years (like 50 or so) a "Four on the floor" tranny! Theyre so bassacwards that they cant even use a 5spd tranny! I hate NASCRAP! Sorry, rant no over.

WHOA

I hope you guys aren't thinking that I can't drive manual.

:wtf:

I can, but because of a circumstance that I thought was very convenient to me, i decided to stick to the auto. I was just wondering what the opinions of you guys was.

You DRIVE a car with a manual

with and auto you just point and press the gas

all I see up here is a bunch of pussy's driving mommy's handed down civics with auto, they have there BOMB mufflers and there intakes, and guess what, THEY ARE SLOW AS HELL
same with most of the eclipses I see, GSX with a big ass crome muffler, but slow as hell because its and auto

besides its more fun driving stick because it takes skill, it makes you feel as if your part of the car, its a great feeling

I have a 2003 MP5, automatic w/sport shifter that was Dyno tested today at Injen's headquarters. I'm sad to say I was very dissappointed in the results.

2003 Auto 2.0 is rated at 130 hp and the actual Hp to the wheels is only 95.1. I don't recall the manufactures Torque rating but on the dyno today it was only 107.6.

After the R&D guy(who is now my new best friend) installed the CAI which by the way is awesome looking alone the Dyno test came back as follows:

Hp 100.2, max torque 111.6.

Now, he had his Dyno test for a 2002 5 spd and it's baseline was about 102 or so. I can't quit remember but I do remember it being about 12 Hp more than the automatic. The test after he installed the CAI on it was about 115 to 119, right around there somewhere.

So, I saw the proof today of about how much more power a 5 spd has and when you're talking a difference of 12 hp I think that's a big differenc.

The cool thing...I got a red Injen CAI out of the deal and more testing on my car in the future. The R&D guy will be visiting this site soon when he gets time and put in his two cents on future stuff for our cars and let me tell you, AWESOME!!

Anyway, I like my car so much I would never trade it now for anything else, even it is an automatice (w/sport).

I can tell you this. if you're into drag, the auto w/sport is the way to go.

hmmmm...

I was looking at your numbers since I too have an auto sport shift. What's strange is Flyin' Miata ran a Dyno on a stock p5 (stick) and the numbers were 96.4 HP and 108.3 at the wheel(s).

That is not much at all from the numbers that you got from the auto.

I am curious what differences there are between the test you had and the test FM did.

Of course, the manual will be quicker, with more power. However, to those who drive manuals, just because you do drive a manual doesn't mean that you will beat an automatic in a street race. Most people I know drive a manual like they're in drivers training, yet think their car can beat any automatic. Please, unless you really know how to drive stick, don't just assume you're faster.

yeah, manual is a lot more fun cuz you are in control of the car. The funny thing is when i drove auto i always did all that retarded downshifting and neutral stuff to try and make my car look like stick but now when i have the stick im trying to shift smoothly so it looks like a maunal..hahaha i guess those who have it don't have to show it.

right now i am loving it. But my roomate who has driven stick since he was 16 and my other friends who haev been driving stick for 5+ years say that they prefer auto. weird huh?

I'm sorry, but nothing beats the feel of red-lining the car, pressing the cluch, and shifting. Even with our weak cars, i can still feel much more power than in automatics. i REFUSE to buy anything but stick shift cars b/c they are so much more fun to drive.
