auto and manual engines

Is there a major difference between the two? Or none at all, because I want to swap out the auto for a manual.

-No, I will not trade the car in for a different one.
Got too good of a deal on the auto to get rid of it for a manual.

The engines are the same, it's the transmissions that are different...

Even though at the cores the engines are the same it is a huge project to do a transmission swap. If you search around there are a couple people that have tried it and there are complete lists of parts you will need in there.

But as I said be warned it can cost upwards of $3000 and have you're car out of service for months.

seriously? it would take roughly a day or weekend to do the job, assuming the person had all of the parts.. it's really not that hard...

I'd LOVE to see someone make that swap in a weekend. Putting aside all the mechanical and cosmetic parts, you'd need a new ECU. If you just left the wires leading to the auto tranny unplugged, the ECU would wig out before you got backed out of the driveway.

Tranny, mounts, axles, speed sensor, not to mention all the shifter hardware and parts to convert the console so it will accomodate a manual shifter.

Major project.

i guess we'll see. as i will be doing this.. and ... you act liike the trans mount is really that big of a deal.. it's not.. speed sensors? if it's not ran off the axles, it's ran off an EASILY installed sensor into the transmission. ecu takes 5-10 minutes to uninstall/reinstall. tranny itself takes roughly 3 hours or so do uninstall...and the console takes all of 10 minutes to take out... but w/e..

i pulled out my ENTIRE interior, including dash, in less than 2 hours.. this stuff really isnt' that complicated with the right tools.

4800 posts vs. 2 posts. I'm guessing you are a little more intimate with the car.

If all you've ever done to a car is put in gas then there is no way this is feasible, but I also don't think it would take more than a week and that with the right tools the electronics will be your worst enemy (without the right tools good luck!)

thank you.keeping in mind that i've pulled my motor about 8 times or more now.. but w/e.

what i accomplished in less than 2 hours

sure man. if you get parts or mods and you wanna learn, just hit me up. idk how far you are from me.. but you can come up!

not from mazda. It would cost you a fortune. Try to search in your area for a wrecked protege with a manual transmission that you can get for cheap. There are a couple ppl doing complete part outs on the for-sale thread as well.

Johnny where are you locted?

I got a manual car that Im selling and would make a killer donor car. the tranny got new sycros and what not and pretty much rebuilt when the internal shifter ling broke like 25K ago.

the car has 200,000 but is totally solid.
