And back on topic, while searching for HU's, I'd say not to get a Panasonic. To tell you the truth, I'm not impressed by mine (I have the CQ-C 8400u). Sure, it looks cool, but that's about it... I have it installed well, and when i'm hitting like anything in the 25-60hz range, it starts skipping. It feels cheap. The Xovers are limited... LPF is only 70/90/120, and HPF is only 70/90. Really stupid. I want my HPF lower, etc. I dunno, maybe there are different now... but I'd say go for a similarly priced Alpine, Eclipse, or Pioneer.

Sounds like you are very specific. For just the regular un-trained ear, would the pana sound good enough? Or would I encounter non-'good enough' audio?

skipping as in the music skips? would it be good enough for just regular use as in not moving a gian 15inch mass of power.

Yeah, a CD will skip. You probably aren't going to be as loud as I am... If you are set on a Pana go ahead, I'm just saying I'd rather have an Alpine, Eclipse, or Pioneer. My xovers are limited, and it skips, and feels cheap. I did experience a newer low-end panasonic, and it was better. Maybe they are getting it together... I just don't like mine that much.

meh, I guess if I don't like it I can always just return or sell it. Not too worried, just getting tired of the stock kenwood crapping out.

FYI I split out all of our elemental babble or atleast as much as I could, sorry for the interruptions...

I really can't see how you're going to have a problem with the panny, They've always produced some solid electronics, in all of my dealings. Currently some of their HT reccievers are KILLING everyone else in the bang for the buck comparisons, and again, the digital amps they incorporate allowing more RMS wattage to be produced from standard dash wiring are a worthwhile thing even if you're just trying to buy time til you can get a nicer amp upfront.

Perhaps I'm wrong, but I'd assume mr D's HU to not be purchased form a local authorised dealer meaning that it's quite possibly b-stock or some other form of gray-market unit.

Just FYI, the 8401 is the newer version of my HU. It seems they changed up the looks, and added another AUX input (bastards... I could use 2...)
