i am looking for new 8" sub for my msp. what do yo think of audiobahn aw800q? never tried them before. i know its not going to pound but i just want alittle more kick and not lose trunk space. is there any other sub that will work better in this location?

Bah...any 8" that actually fits in that cramped little POS box isn't really gonna do too much for you. Here's an idea, though...you get a 4ohm sub and find a way to mount the amp right side up so that it doesn't fry itself, and you've effectively doubled your power output.

See...Kenwood used an 8 ohm sub to keep the heat on the amp down, since it's mounted upside down...it would probably cook itself if they hadn't. That said, if you flip it and give it a 4 ohm load you'll get the 125W RMS that you should, instead of the ~63W RMS that you're getting now. With a JL 8w3v2 it'll sound MUCH improved. Dunno about the audiobahn fitting...it's mounting depth is 4 3/8" (4.375) while the JL is 4.31" and it's a b**** to fit it in there. Either way, get what you like that will fit. You'll find a bunch of us here that would take the JL first, though. :D That's not to say that there aren't other brands, too...

I forgot...here's my set-up. I lost a little trunk space, but I'd prefer to have the extra thump.

thanks for the info. what if i put a fan on the amp? i had 3 jl audio subs in my old car and they were great. just trying to keep stock location.

your system looks really nice servoeyes

I'm not sure if just a fan will cut it. I don't actually know how hot it will get, but when you think that they cut the output in half to keep it cooler, it doesn't seem like a fan would do. Especially since the hot air will just blow right back onto the amp (that whole hot air rises thing. However, I'm sure you could set up something with bolts where the amp would be flipped right side up with some room to breathe. You'd just need to find long enough bolts, but that would do it. And I forgot about this before, but a few of us discussed that you could make a little spacer to fit a slightly deeper sub in that hole, so if you prefer something that'll work in this small enclosure but is a little deeper (I emphasize a little) then you could probably get that to work as well.

Thanks for the compliment. It's kind of haphazard, but I love showing it off since it was my first install!

flipping the amp sounds like a good idea. just not sure if this is going to be worth it just for an 8" woofer. miight just have to scrap the whole stock box and amp and go for a 10" and a new amp.

audiobahn is a piece of crap

yeah, over priced over rated crap. Not sold at true car audio shops, I have only seen them sold at pawn shops, flea markets and places that also sell furnature. There is dozens out there with better sound for less $$$$$.
