Audio installation w/o headunit

I've had my mazda3 for almost a year now and I want to put my old system in. The thing is though I had no aftermarket CD player in my old car and it was wired to the right rear 6x9. I am unaware on how to install something like this and would like to do it myself if possible. I have all the cables for the amp and the little gimmic that was attached to the speaker.

Is there anyway to install the system straight to the stock headunit. I was told that it isn't as nice sounding if it isn't installed to a headunit. I never noticed a difference but I never really got on my subs. Or am I stuck on installing it with the rear speaker.

Do you have the Bose system in your Mazda3 or the regular system?

If you have the regular system, you can hook up your amp and subs the same way you did in your previous car by connecting the "gimmic" (its called a line-out-converter) to one of the rear speakers. If you don't have access to the rear speakers you can also connect it to the back of the factory head unit.

So to simply connect your subwoofers, you do not need an aftermarket head unit. It helps with sound quality, but isn't necessary.

I don't know which wires on the harness you need to use on the back of the head unit but I'm sure someone in the Mazda3 CA&E section of this forum can help you out. I'm moving your thread to that section.

If you are doing the installation yourself, you can use a PAC AOEM-MAZ2 to speed up installation. The adapter is plug and play, will give you a full range signal for your speakers/subs that you are hooking up to the amplifier, and has an amp turn on wire. This adapter is plug and play so you don't have to cut any wires.
In the future, you can expand your system with this adapter since its a 4 channel rca output just in case you also want to add an amplifier to your door speakers.

Sub Install on factory HU

Hey man, I did an aftermarket subwoofer install with my factory head unit on an 08.5 mazda 3. I connected my line out converter right to the back of the head unit, as it was easier to get to the head unit than trying to take the door panel off.

You will need to run 2 pairs of wires to the line out converter...

The left rear door speaker wires are White/Violet, and Grey/White
The right rear door speaker wires are White, Grey

Make sure you grab the wires from the harness at the back of the head unit, some of the wires change colors as they run through the car. Using a wire tap, which you can pick up at any local electronics store, will give you a nice clean splice.
