AT Check light flashing

:
2002 Mazda Protege5
So as I was starting my car to head to work, My car jerked so bad as I put the car in reverse I thought someone hit me in my own driveway. (same deal when I put it in drive.) My AT light is flashing and the car shifts horribly as it shifts to second nearly at 5000 RPMs. Im afraid to hit it past 3rd as the car revs so loud and shakes a bit. This is my 4th time posting on here about the car, its my first car and I've had it for a week......

The transmission fluid is nice and full, seems overfilled, and its red. These couple of days the car was struggling to go into drive from a stop so i was gonna get the EGR valve checked out tomorrow but it seems I now have to get the tranny checked...

when my girlfriend shifted the car into reverse from a stop I witnessed my whole engine rock back then forth, Sooo how screwed am I?

seem overfill? or it is overfill?

fluid has to be the correct one and at the correct level... start with the basic.

he is correct make sure it has correct fluid type in it and that it is not over full. but with the symptoms you describe it sounds like it has an issue mechanically. this is most likely beyond the scope of driveway repair. automatic transmissions are a PITA to work on and hard to get correct when fixing. it maybe worth a shop looking at it. have the code that your check transmission light is throwing( a shop can do this) thats where i would start, it maybe something as small as a clogged transmission filter and over filled fluid to as big as a transmission control module fault. its hard to tell you what is going on with it without witnessing it in person and being able to check the codes

It was a damn senor that wasn't plugged in right from the previous owner. Wiring was jacked up and wore little by little, no other problem and I'm blowing a sigh of relief.

i would still check the fluid.
if you want a car to be trouble free. check the fluid often, never miss one. i mean ALL fluids. brake, PS, Tranny, engine. all,

you ignore it i can guarantee you will be in a shop

The car had a checkup everything is fine, all I need is an EGR valve cleaning which I'll be doing tomorrow.

I had a flashing AT issue everyday since I bought my wagon. No power and stuck flashing AT while in gear until it warmed up a bit (~1,000ft). Fixed with Mercon V tranny oil and a new transmission filter. Proteges seem picky for a clean properly oiled transmission. So definitely check those things out. Saved me couple hundred at least! Pretty solid too, since I ran it like this for about a year lol

ATs are the most complex device in the automotive industry, they are built with a brain and can adjust to slightly varying fluid levels and viscosities, however most AT transmissions are picky on fluid and pretty much all cannot handle over-filling.

You may have checked the fluid level when the car was off, and if so, then it would seem overfilled because none of it was in the torque converter. Make sure to check transmission fluid when the engine is running and the transmission is warm.
