i was reading the thread on what stock P5s can beat, and i notice alot of people are saying that the 5's are really slow. The last car i owned was a 1997 Altima GXE 5 speed. It had the "truck" engine, 2.4L with 150 horse. it ran a 16.7 stock. I modded it with unorthodox UDP, CAi, exhaust and advanced timing and shaved that to 15.38 or so. (this was 5-6 years ago). so i am not worried about 16s stock.
Is there any hope to run decent times with mods? how about mid range? say 40-90 mph. is it slow like an electric civic?:)
i am not really into speed anymore. i really like my clean driving record.

They are peppy, they are no civic Si. They are made to be econo box's that handle well and carry most everything.

With that said there are many a mod's to put on the car. A 5 speed will be in the high 16's range stock. Most love these cars for handling. Speed is nice as well... theres a large selection of parts, check out: www.protegegarage.com and snoop around a bit.

For 'around town' driving there's plenty of torque for me. If you're looking for top end power on interstates, etc. that's where it's lacking. There's only one interstate that goes through my town and i'm hardly ever on it -the rest of the roads have speed limits of 35-45mph so I don't really notice a lack of power.

if you want speed i guess your "forced" to buy a turbo kit. too bad. i feel sorry for you(silly)

as stated above, the P5 is peppy. quick enough for normal daily driving....

handles very well......
