Are Mazdas okay now?...

Just wondering if mazdas are good cars to get, any major problems? Want an Mp3 found one for a good price, just not sure about mazdas.

Sorry about those who got offended by the subject line, just an attention getter, I can't wait to get an MP3 if they are okay.

I never knew Mazda was ever a bad brand to buy.

But overall, yeah, they're pretty good...although they do have a few small issues.

1-the mp3 makes some clunking noises...has to do with the rear bushings...but the dealer will fix it under warranty.

2-The clutches aren't that great, but if you plan on making your car faster, you'll be replacing that anyway.

And what's "a good price"...how many miles, what price, what condition?

the "good price"

He wants about 12K for it, reconditioned warranty, got the door banged in with 100 miles on it, and the guy wanted another one, it has like 1000 miles on it, but you never know what it will end up going for, he won't sell it before the bid is over.

Proteges and Miatas have alot of tranny problems.

Not entirely true. Out of the all the MP3 owners on this site, only a handful really have this tranny gremlin that everyone seems to be afraid of. So, yes I think Mazdas are good cars. My dad had 2 when I was younger (Mazda GLC & B2200 Pickup) and both lived past 80k miles with no problems what so ever. So assuming that you get your regular maintenance and do your oil changes, you'll be fine. Saying that Proteges and Miata have tranny problems would be a pretty large generalization.

I'd have to agree considering that there are a lot of P5's and ES's going around here, and NOBODY has had tranny problems in this town that I know of yet. Keeping my fingers crossed though.

Mazdas have had a long history of reliability. Every vintage of the Miata, and Protege have been on Consumer Reports as a great buy, for reliability and costs.

Shifting into reverse is sometimes an annoyance as sometimes the gear doesn't get properly inserted, so I have to go back to neutral and shift to reverse again, more convincingly.

enry

You know what, just about every Honda I've had did the same thing as yours in reverse. It's not just a MAzda thing. Anyone going to call Honda manual trannies crap because of that....nope. I don't personally have that problem with my mp3. My 2000 Civic was one of the worse I've ever seen when shifting in reverse. It frustrated me daily.

like EVERY car make, they all have flaws. some have more than others, some cost more than others. so i guess it all depends on what you need and want in a car.....we have a 99 protege lx and have had not one single problem with the transmission itself and its well over 90k. though the oxygen sensor is in need of a replacement...

I used to have a 96 nissan frontier. Reliable little truck, but it had the same deal with shifting into reverse. Was WAY worse than the mp3. I think it's a "safety feature".

Mazdas must be a fairly good vehicles otherwise why would so many of us owners come together to talk about and discuss our cars. Just make sure you know what you want I wanted a sweet looking car with better milage than my Z28, well I got what I wanted but now I miss the horsepower alot. Now I have to upgrade the Mp3. So think about what you want and expect from the car then make your choice. I am an inpulse buyer and some times end up spending alot to get what I want in the long run. In my experience mazdas have always been good reliable cars I currently own 2 Mp3 - 1997 Protege also.

mazda "might" have transmission problems on their AUTOMATIC, not standard...since MP3s don't have Auto option, i don't think there is any serious question mark on our MP3s...i drove a mx6 ls since 93' and "sometimes" kick bad ass on my gas pedal. she is still working now and no major problem. well...if guys are "always" racing driving...only few trans could still alive...
