ApexR1 2.5" Exhaust - Questions on Modding.

I have the ApexR1 exhaust, turboback, 2.5". Issue is that the axleback portion is melting the rear bumper in a small area because it's up against it. There is also the issue of how the axleback is angled from the midpipe. It is designed like this from the company. Wouldn't this restrict performance? I'm thinking of having it customized to be straight, so that would also prevent my bumper from melting. Anyone else have these issues?

its far away so the car wont hit it when you hit a bump, and no that wont hurt performance as thats hardly any angle at all

I have speed bump experience already; it's in-line with the rear wheels. It's been on there a while. My biggest issue is the fact that it's melting my bumper. I was pondering the thought of getting it re-welded to make it not have the angle, so that it won't touch my rear bumper.

Couldn't you get a shorter exhaust hanger to replace the one visible in your first pic, which would angle the muffler away from the bumper?

I had the same exhaust...for about 2 months. I sold it cuz I kept scraping the flange. If you keep it the best thing (gulp) would be to get a pipe fabbed so it can go over the rear axle?

I think you'll want to mess with the exhaust hanger up on the midpipe. I put c-clamps around the grommets to tighten them up a bit that will definately change the angle at the rear.

Yeah, I'll do that.. anything to change the angle of it. (iagree)

Yeah, sometimes I wished I had gotten the rear section fabbed to go over the axle. That exhaust is awesome!!

Is it just stretching the grommets...try the hose clamp thing temporarily. You need a pretty big size to get around the whole grommet but it should lift and tighten it up pretty good. Support the exhaust right where you want it then tighten them up a bit but not too much so they have some flex left.

i dont think you need to refab anything. get kartboy exhaust hangers and maybe mess with the hangers on the pipe. refabbing will be expensive

I suppose, but I think the main motivation to have this exhaust is to have it go under the axle. :P

i just got my apexr1 3" today...going to customize it to bolt onto my existing corksport exhaust...
