I kinda want HID headlights and have been looking at the kits, but was wondering if anyone has used diffrent kits or recommends any. Any likes dislikes would be appreciated.

I have the helios kit on my car. Xenon-Shop on the boards sells them. You may see me driving around North Canton/Belden Village sometimes. I ordered their 7000k kit. I believe hes running a christmas special for $220 or something.

I'll watch for you , I'd like to see what they look like.

i also used to have HID. They looked really good but the glare was so intense that i just took them out.

could you explain this? what glare? and how bad and what not.. i'm just reviewing the pros and cons to hid's and want all the info i can get before making my decision...

another thing i would like to know is, how is visibility in the fog, rain, and snow storms? When i had brighter lights in my other car, it was great on a clear night, but fog and crap, you couldn't see anything.

x 2 for the explanation of the glare - I've got my HIDs and all I notice is that I can see a hell of a lot better.

I bought my lights from Visionbulbs, they have offices in Canada and the States ( I do not recommend them - HORRIBLE customer service)

Visibility in the rain is a bit better - I am self diagnosed with night/rain blindness so all I can say is that things are better than they were.

No experience with snow yet but fog isn't too bad

how many hid threads do we need in the same day by the same person in the same section? Anyway, welcom to the forums, and if you search you'll find that a lot of people are running HID kits, and can probably get most of your answers that way.

When i first put the HID lights in I could not be any happier. I thought the car looked really sweet and the output of the light was way better then the stock halogen. If you read more about HID's and what glare is(i dont know to much about it) you will see that there is all kinds of horrible glare put out by the light. There are reflectors designed for HID and those that are not. (For example G35 sedans and coupe's) Since the protege5 headlight was not designed for them it is a hazard to other drivers. But then again there are people who have improperly aimed lights which is probably just as bad.
visibility in fog and rain seemed to be the same to me.

Visibility is great. It is a little blue...when you are in the car diving it appears white on the road though. Only time you can tell is when you go past a street sign. It gets a neat glow of blue.

you can go diving in a car? lol
thats good tho, im definetly getting an hid kit when i get the money and havent decided between 6 or 7000k. i have terrible night vision so i cant have anything thats really blue cuz i wont be able to see

my point is that outside the car it appears blue but driving it appears white...

I have a 6k kit and it looks PLENTY blue, if I ever need to replace the bulbs on this car again I'll buy a 5k kit definitely. Anything past 5k is making less light just to get the look, and blue light is the worst for night visibility. I'd say get a 5k or 6k kit.. 6k will give you enough "hid look"

yea i gotcha. thats what i want. and like kansei just said anything after 5K is getting into the blue range which is less light output so ill prob do a 6k kit
