anyone running open downpipe

i ask couse im runing open downpipe on my ms3 and it sound very nice. almost just like an srt-4. the power gain is incredible with the open dp. i went from spikeing 20, holding 15, droping to 10 from 6000rpm to red line.to holding 17 18, and only dropping to 13 14. it is noticably faster with the open dp. i love it. so now i just gutted the cat on the test pipe not the one on the downpipe. originally i took the cat out to weld o bung for my wide band o2s. and decided to test out the car with the open dp.

some thing i was going to try when ever i bought exhaust, i want to install the downpipe and install the catback later. but i assumed the gains would be like you said

Not a good idea, you will melt some wiring and your car will stop. Some other guy on here did this.

I remember that post. He was pissed Mazda wouldn't cover it through warrenty after he melted some s*** by running an open DP (stooges)

o ok nevermind then, that would happen because hot exhaust rising in the middle of the car right?

I suppose that could happen. If you have ever seen the wiring on these cars it is everywhere, exhaust anywhere but out the back is liable to ruin something.

why not just put some added protection on any wiring that could be melted by an open downpipe... maybe im wrong and you cant do this but if you can seems like a decent idea

Why not run the exhaust out the back where it belongs? It might save you from killing yourself or someone else when you pass out from the carbon monoxide.(gun)

I would like to see someone put on an O2 dump on there ms3. Those things are great because they are only really loud when your waste gate opens at full boost.

the extra power is in your head ! it has been proven that all the restriction in the stock exhaust is in the DP. my car was actually dynoed at AMS with and without the cat-back installed. they where looking at making a kit for the car.
what they saw was ZERO increase of power running open DP, so they didnt even bother making a CBE !

with the heatsheild in place there should be no melting of wires. iv been running open dp for a week now with no problems.

I think it took a bit longer than that for the wiring to melt, but when it did finally melt the car just stopped responding to throttle input because the drive by wire wiring was what melted. I don't have the post in front of me right now but try searching for it. And yes the dude in the post was a real moron trying to get mazda to pay for it under warranty.

Even if you somehow cover the wires, running a open dp is not good for the floor of the car. Probably in a year or less theres gona be hardcore rust everywhere.

the carbon monoxide you are breathing at red lights isnt good for you either !
all of your exhaust is floating right into the passenger cabin. you will be brain dead in a month !!

you could always just install one of those cut-outs and uncap it whenever you plan on racing

Well the reason you're not dead its because there's also plenty of oxygen and you are not breathing straight from the muffler. And there is more than carbon monoxide in the exhaust, there is nitrogen oxides, (carcinogenic) hydrocarbons and sulfur. All this coming in direct contact with the floor of the car is gona cause rust everywhere. (RTM)
