Anyone paint their stock rims?

I have a 03 mica blue p5 and want to paint the rims gunmetal. anyone have this done to their rims? and do u need to take the tires off or can u just mask off the tires?

I painted the wheels that I had on my GTI a couple years ago using Duplicolor gunmetal and the clearcoat. They looked alright at first, but they got some chips in them and really needed to be redone. If you're using them as winter wheels, I'd say go for it. But if durability is what you want, then powdercoating is the way to go.

Here is my rims painted in gunmetal.
they are 10 months old lol. Now it's time to change the rims to 17inches.

THIS WAS MY FIRST ATTEMPT, the pics above were my second attempt at it and turned out a little better than these.

here is some clearer pics back when i had my sticker kit on the car.
i used Duplicolor Rim paint. i wet sanded them with fine grit sand paper and then painted them, no primering involved witht this specific paint. after i painted them i used Duplicolor's Rim clear coat.

not if you really dont have the money to buy new rims. you have to work with what you have!!! (flame) (gun)

yea i used masking tape and newspaper. took time to get it perfect but was very easy to do.

It looks like most of the painted wheels are gunmetal. Has anyone painted theirs bronze or gold? Especially if your car is red.
